I'm renting a fairly old village house on an island, and am interested in buying it. For fairly obvious reasons I don't want to approach my landlord yet until I've done a bit of research into prices. How can I get a house like this valued?

Thanks! Mine is a difficult one as the condition of the house is very bad (can't imagine the renovation costs) but the location (great view and lots of space) is fantastic. I really can't imagine finding anywhere else that would suit us so well, but I cannot stand paying rent any longer and not getting the renovations done. If I could buy it then I could renovate, but as it it, the landlord won't do a thing.
