Bad credit history

ORIGINAL POST

I made a few bad financial decisions about 7 years ago in Hong Kong and got a bad credit history which has followed me. 7 years of savings I now find myself solvent with some money to invest and I want to buy a property in the UK. Which banks would look favourably on mortgage requests from me?

While I do not have a specific recommendation for you, I would suggest first approaching whichever bank you feel you have the best relationship with at the moment. If that fails, cast your net a bit wider. If you can show stable employment income and have met your obligations for several years and have a sufficient deposit I'd like to think that the banks would be willing to lend to you again.

Good lucj!

I get my PR in Hong Kong in two months. Will that make any difference to how they view me?

As a heads up, be careful with 'payday' loans such as provided by the link in the previous post. there are very mixed reviews on this type of payday loan business, especially relating to actual charges for the loan (can be very very high), how the loan is collected, and charges in case repayment is not on time, risking an even worse credit situation. The BBC has a few informative articles on their website.
