Buying village house with unauthorized side windows

Hi everyone

I am planning to buy a village house that I really like and that fits all my requirements but when checking all the property documents given by the vendor, I discovered that unauthorized windows had been added in 1987 on both sides of my future house.

The vendors claims that it's not a big deal and that's very common.
I am not sure what to do , it's a very good deal but I am afraid to face serious issues later on if I buy the house as it is with those unauthorized windows, especially if those windows are removed, it will have a important impact on the house itself.
Do you have any experience on this ? Did this happened to anyone to buy a house with unauthorized structure and have consequences from government ? Any idea how should I move forward ? Can we make it legal?

Hi Kellykann,

It's difficult to answer your question as we don't have enough insight into what order has been issued regarding the unauthorised works you mention. Different orders mean different things and have different consequences so without knowing what type of order has been issued it is difficult to say.

If you have already appointed a solicitor to do the conveyancing for your transaction you may want to ask for their advice on the order.

Good luck!
