Illegal Structure - What will happen ?

we have had a removal order for illegal structure at the side of our village house. We dont want to take it down because it make sup a significant portion of our living room. We have tried in vain to find a way round with the lands/building department. The most we have got is an extension to removal. The problem is I am 7 months pregnant and the date for removal is 1 month after giving birth. You can imagine how having to have builders in within 1 month of giving birth makes me feel !

What will happen if we dont take it down ? I have heard 2 different stories and the buildings website says something different again.

Story 1 they send builders to remove it and then charge us for the removal.

Stroy 2 - they slap a not allowed to sell order on and wont allow us to sell until it is rectified (this would be fine with us)

The website: $50000 dollar fine and 1 years imprisonment

Does anyone know anyone who has actually refused and what happened ?
