Moving to HK what rent agent to use?

My husband and I with our 2 kids aged 9 and 7 are moving to HK from UK in September. Just my husband and myself are coming over next week to look at schools and properties to rent. We are mainly interested in the Clearwater Bay area as we like the outdoor lifestyle(and doesn't look like we can afford much else). Can anybody recommend a good agent to contact to show us round this area? Can anyone recommend other similar areas - our budget is around 70K HK a month. Someone advised us that unlike the uk you should only get one agent to show you round all the properties available?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Gold Coast?? Why is it so reasonable? F348 it sounds amazing compared to what you get elsewhere for the same amount....what's the catch???

not sure that you can get a lot of choice in Southside or Shouson Hill for $70k tho... with 2 kids - i guess you would want 3bed at least..

Hi gigglepants,

walkup2 is correct that you should register with as many agents as possible because they don't all have the same properties. But it's a good idea not to register with lots of different agents in the same area, particularly in Sai Kung or Clearwater Bay. There isn't all that much property available up there, and a lot of them do have the same ones, so you waste your time looking at flats that you have already seen.

My suggestion is that you start off with just one or two agents and, if you can't find anything you like, go to other agents afterwards if necessary. Bear in mind that a good agent will "co-op" with other agents if they can't find anything suitable for you themselves.

The Gold Coast is a long way out - you need to think about where you and/or your husband will be working, how much time you're willing to spend travelling every day, and where your children will be going to school. Have you looked into schools yet? As you're coming from the UK you may be planning on putting them into an English Schools Foundation school - if so, you have to live in the catchment area of the school concerned. I believe it's also quite difficult to get places in ESF schools these days.

I'm going to send you a personal message with a list of properties to give you an idea.
