Our landlord has just told us he will not renew our lease (which ends in 2 months) but we want to stay on. I have been at the same place for three years. I heard that a new law means he must give six months' notice then, not two, but can't find details. Does anyone know if I can negotiate to stay another six months rather than two? Thank you.

He only has to give what is stated in the contract and there is no particular law on this issue. Also he does not have to keep you on as tenants and you have no right to stay on.
This is current law:
For tenancies of non-domestic properties that were created on or after 9 July 2004, the parties can freely negotiate and agree between themselves on how the tenancy will be terminated. In the absence of any contractual agreement, a fixed term tenancy will end upon expiry, and a periodic tenancy (which will be automatically renewed from period to period) will be terminated by issuing a notice to quit to the tenant at the length of a full tenancy period.
There is no provision for 6 months and certainly no laws passed to implement this. Take a look here http://www.hkclic.org/en/topics/landlord_tenant/changesOnTenancyLegislations/index.shtml

Saikunga is not correct. The landlord does not have to give two months' notice. Once the lease finishes, that's it, unless you have negotiated new terms.
