We are moving to HK in early August and have figured out that South Horizons is a good location for us. Any tricks or advice to getting a good deal there? Should we just walk in to a Midlands Realty office at South Horizons? Any problems I should watch out for?
Cheers

Have you been to HK before? What made you decide on South Horizon? Just wondering as most expats don't vie for South Horizon on the first go although some do. Depends on your lifestyle and what you are looking for I guess but just curious. I suggest if you never been hear before, stay in a service apartment for the first couple month, get aquainted with the areas and then nail down the area you want to live.

I will be teaching at the new campus of Victoria Shanghai Academy on Shum Wan Road. So South Horizons (and all of Ap Lei Chau) is nearby with easy access.

Hi Hk Bound,
We used Centaline when we got our place, which was ok.
Actually, have you had a good look at other properties on Ap Lei Chau.
I first also considered moving to South Horizons, till I found out about Sham Wan Towers. This complex of only 3 towers is a lot newer than South Horizons at more or less the same rental. I've been living there for 2 years. Maybe you can have another look at this thread: http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/propertychat/threads/100880.asp

Thanks! I read through those threads and they were very informative. Sham Wan Towers seems like an interesting possible alternative. We will check it out!

You could walk to work if you stay at Sham Wan Towers.get there faster than sitting in a taxi with all the traffic from South Horizon although you have more around you in South Horizon as far as a little shopping mall and a McDonalds.
Keep in mind, most teachers also just ride the school bus with the students in the morning as they pick up quite early here in H.K.
As for realtors, I would suggest you work with and expat real estate specialist unless you are a fluent cantonese speaker yourself otherwise everything can be lost in the translation.
