house in Saikung

Could anyone tell me how much we would need to pay for a house in Saikung...around 2500 sq feet?. Is Saikung a really big area? Are there parts of Saikung that are more convenient to Central than others? I'd also love to know what people think of the area compared to Pokfulam. (this is where we live now) Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I live right in the middle of Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay and love it. I can be in central in 30 mins on a good run by car. It can be a lot longer. Sai Kung has everything you need in the way of shops, a large expat community and a real village atmosphere.

I'd like to know what the pro & cons are about living out in Sai Kung/CWB.

It seems from what I've heard, that you either love it or hate it. Some people also say it's inconvient and quite a distance..yet others make it sound like a quick hop & skip to Central.

I plan on viewing the area and homes next wkend with my agent...but I'd like to hear the lowdown from folks living there now.

Details details... ;)

Whats the shopping like & types of stores?

What type of Restaurants are out there?

Hospitals/Clinics any good?

Safe..or do I need a guard dog? (as someone said I would)

Do you really need a car?

Easy to meet other expats/ make friends?

Do you feel isolated out there...or is it refreshing to be away from the city?

What made you chose to live out there?

My agent only has limited places for me to view...would it be better for me to use a agent in Sai Kung/CWB?

Any suggestions for a good agent would be very welcome. thks!

Rare that you will find anything for 2500sq ft. Most are 2100sq ft on three levels.

For convenience to town you best look at Clearwater Bay rather than Sai Kung. Compared to Pokfulam - there is more space, less traffic, friendly shop owners (and lots of them) low rise buildings, water you can swim in, no big cemetery, a community feeling, you will always see someone you know in town, the police out here are excellent, loads of country parks to get lost in, less pollution, less people.... it is my favourite park of HK!

There is one advertised at iland at Tropical Gardens (not sure where that is) 2500sq ft for $26,000 a month with a large garden.

Hi, I am also looking to move to Sai Kung. But I am looking for a houseshare with one or two others. Is this common in the Sai Kung area and do you have any suggested web sites or publications that I could look in. At the moment I am based in the UK so excuse me if I seem a little in the dark about this area. Many thanks!
