How is Discovery Bay to live in?

I am considering moving to Discovery Bay to live outside the city buzz with a nicer and cleaner surroundings and then commute to work in Causeway Bay. Is that realistic?

What is it like to live in Discovery Bay as a single?

Any cafe or bar life? Can I get a game of pool and a draft beer anywhere in DB?

What outdoor life is there? any beach, hiking or biking?

Can DB be compared to Sai Kung?

All the singles I have known have moved out of DB after a year or 2. DB is nothing like Sai Kung, personally Sai Kung wins hands down.

I live in DB and I do like it here. I do have small children so DB is kind of ideal for us. Convenient, easy to get to Airport/MTR/Central. Nice parks, playrooms, swimming pools, lots of playgroups, schools, activities for the little ones. It is extremely easy to make friends here.


I am not sure that it would be my first choice of places to live if I was single though as nitelife is almost inexistent (unless you enjoy sitting at a picnic table in the middle of the plaza). You can get draft beer here, there are restaurants. Jaspa's is probably the best food but there are lots of others to chose from.


It is extremely safe, dog friendly, little car traffic (personal vehicles are not allowed in db.Only golf carts). The beach I do not recommend for swimming but there is always a game of beach volleyball you can join on on the weekends. Hiking is good. Easy access to South Lantau from here. There is lots of biking being done. There is a group of people living here who are huge bike adepts and organize themselves for bike runs all over HK.



It's not as pretty as Sai Kung but for me just a lot easier!

I lived in DB for a couple of years. Like DBgreenburg says ...Its great for a family life & for kids. For single people, you wont like it there....all my single friends moved out of DB real quick. On a lighter note....wanna make a baby?? Go to DB!!!!

DB is like the town in the Movie Stepford Wives, you really only fit in there if you have 2.4 children and own a golf cart!!!
