I live in Tai Tam and I know a lot of families who live without a car. Having a car is a definite plus but taxi in HK is quite cheap and always readily available. Also, most people I know who live in Tai Tam and work in Central do not drive to work because parking fee is quite high. They either take shuttle bus or taxi.
