We are having a baby in July and are looking to move when our lease comes up in December.
We are considering Tung Chung.....have been there for a brief look around but have not inspected any apartments as yet.
Can anyone offer any advice (pros/cons) or building reccommendations?
We have considered other locations such as Gold Coast and surrounds, Park Island..but we really need to be near an MTR station.

We don't live there. Contemplated about it though. But when we've been there, we can't help notice the pollution. Seems pretty bad. There is a lingering petrol smell probably due to its proximity to the airport.

The day we went, it was really windy. The air seemed clearer than we had seen on HK island most days.
Any TC residents out there that can set me straight?

we move to Tung Chung last year and enjoy it here. have stayed at North Point and Mid-Levels in the past. Tung Chung gives you open space and family environment. You will see lots of babies around the area.
Take a look on Coastal Skyline and Seaview Crescent.

What about general facilities i.e is there a medical centre, library etc. Is there anything obviously lacking out here? I don't particularly want to travel often - I like the idea of everything being within walking distance. Is this the case?

From what I've researched, TC has many positive attributes such as price, facilities, transport and other features mentioned in above posts, but the one thing that concerns us (as parents of a 1 year old and plan to have a couple more over the next few years) is the pollution.
Little boddies are amazing things and metabolise everything you throw at them so they are more prone to negative environmental effects and can accumulate toxins to higher concentrations than adults. Even moreso for a fetus.
Our little son, is from 2 healthy parents and having being gestated and spending his 1st year in Sweden has had a great start in life and is strong as an ox -but if our next baby were to have asthma, be low birthweight and be sick often, we couldn't help but wonder if environmental factors played a large part.
I've made a friend through this forum who lives in TC and when I asked her about the pollution, she replied that, 'on the bad days, we don't go outside'.
We've looked at DB as a possible area to live in when we move to HK in a couple of months and are now looking at Sai Kung and like what we see. It's a lot further from the airport (where my husbands job is) but we like the greeness and quality of the construction.

I live in in Tung Chung and we look at the API every day rather than relying on a look out the window to decide on pollution levels. The fact of it is for around 3 months of the year Tung Chung has the lowest pollution levels due to the change in winds. The rest of the time there is very little difference between Tung Chung and anywhere else with the exception of central and other major areas in town which are always far worse.
The fact is most people like to believe that where they live is the best for pollution but you need to actually look at the figures to make a call a look out the window is not a good indication of pollution levels as we do get allot of mist at times.

Agree with the previous folks. I did a lot of research (even graphed the API data) and TC has many more clean days per year than most other areas of HK, and is trending lower.
The one thing I don't understand is sometimes when the reading is low, we still get that "Guangdong smell" (like an industrial burning smell) and I really don't know why I don't smell it anywhere else in HK...high or low day.

We just flew back in from Thailand and I must say, it seemed so much better out at Tung Chung than back at home in downtown Wanchai!
