I'll be moving to HKG in early September I'm budgeting abuot $40,000 HKG for an apartment. I will be traveling to the airport daily and would like to be on the outskirts of activity. Can somebody advise some good areas and will I get a nice place for this amount?
Criteria:
Roomy (I know its HKG!)
2 Bed room
Good condition

You definitely should be able to get a nice place for 40K. The main question is, how far are you willing to travel each day to get to the airport?

Tung Chung is the nearest town from the airport; just a short 12 minute bus ride from the town plaza. You could get the biggest unit at Caribbean Coast (CC) for HKD14,000 to HKD15,000. The units in CC are brand new, with the 2 new towers just opened this July. Largest flat is around 1300 square feet.
Some of those living in Tung Chung, especially in CC are pilots, flight attendants and airport personnel.

Nothing is more convenient for the airport than Tung Chung and the pollution thing is rubbish. Yes there is pollution but it’s everywhere and Gold coast is just over the water so no better. If you look in the paper each day you’ll see that Tung Chung is far from the worst for pollution.
We looked at Gold Coast but didn't rate it and didn't think it was worth the extra travel time but everyone is different.
I would look at TC first then go from there it has pretty good shopping and your only 30 mins on the MTR to the centre of town and there are no travel delays due to road works. There are lots of open spaces loads of beautiful walks etc of lantau, most apartment developments come with facilities i.e. swimming pools, gym tennis etc so plenty to do.

I would like to suggest, that you go to buy an appartment on mortgage, pay the mortgage and when you wish to leave say after three years or so. You can sell it out ot just keep it and rent it out. This way you can utilize your money for value.
