I've heard there are going to be more renovation/destruction in Wan Chai. Do you know where I can get the information about which parts will be modified and when ?

Is there any internet website about it ?

I just want to avoid living in front a flat that's being destroyed & rebuilt (noise+dust)

Thanks

Yes - theres is a plan from the govt to redevelop Wanchai into a modern, cosmopolitan residential centre between Central and Causeway Bay (in addition to the commercial areas already in Wnachai). Current projects include the new developments J Residence and the Zenith. Upcoming projects include the areas between Lee Tung St and McGregor St. These are all the major developments planned by the Urban Renewal Authority. The URA has an office on Wanchai rd near the Zenith and you can get the details of these plans there.

Of course it is possible for private investors also to buy old buildings and apply to redevelop these sites.

Overall this is a great thing for Wanchai as Wanchai has been predominantly an old HK locals residential district being squeezed by the increase in commercial activity in Wanchai and surround areas of Central and Causeway Bay.

With the limited number of new developments in the midlevels and the expansion as far west as Kennedy town people are starting to realise that Wanchai is a prized location and the government's recent inititiaves to free up land will allow the residential sector to catch up with this reality.

New developments may not be nice as a neighbour but once complete these will attract the high income earners that will attract the ammenities that will make Wanchai a desirable address.
