I've got a funny situation with the place we're trying to buy. The agent keeps referring to the current owner as the "landlord", and talks about an original owner when it comes to certain questions of land use rights, going to the government for extension permissions, etc. This is a village house, so is there some situation here where not all rights get transferred to later buyers?
I don't have any reason to doubt that the "landlord" is the genuine current owner, but I'd like some clarification here. Please advise!

You should actually go to a lawyer who specialises in village houses. The agent is right in that some houses the land on which they are built belongs to someone else. It can be an absolute nightmare going in unprepared so make sure you get proper advice from a specialist.

Thanks! Any advice for a suitable lawyer? Is it better to use a specialist from that district when looking for solicitor/conveyancing services?
