Hi, can anyone tell me what specifics licenses are required to start a small home-based catering business. I plan to work only on orders and everything will be hand made at home.
I know I have to register the business 1 month post operation, but since it involves food, are there are other licenses/approvals etc required i.e. hygiene standards etc?
Any help is much appreciated!

Dear Shuchi,
I specialize in advising small start-up business for expat and Hong Kong residents, I handle everything from the formation of Hong Kong companies, license filing, drafting business agreements, establishing company accounts, and other start up requirements in order to get a Hong Kong business up and running.
As you are entering to food catering business there are some slight hurdles you should be aware of. Does your lease specify whether or not you are allowed to use your premises for commercial purposes. This appears to be one of the larger hiccups in Hong Kong. Assuming you can get over that hurdle, there are some small licensing issues that would need to be address and filed with the government. These are fairly easy to obtain in Hong Kong. That being said, nothing is guaranteed without knowing more about your company.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at company.formation.852@gmail.com for free advice relating to your situation. Would be glad to help.
Best regards,
Jonathon
