Hi, any home buyers out there can share how much agent's fee they paid for their purchase? 1% standard rate, or ??

I'm curious if there is any freedom to negotiate, thx for input.

I negotiated 20% off our fee - so it was .8%.

I negotiated when I found something i wanted to buy before I signed their inspection piece of paper..(you know the one that says that I won't approach the owner by myself etc...) When I negotiated the fee and both parties signed off on it - then we started talking about the price of the house.

Did not sign any inspection paper to view any flats (proviso that I told the agents before they showed me the places). Took 30% off the negotiation fee ie 0.7% and only told them about it before I went to put the deposit on the flat (after lot of hooha on their part and the 'we're not getting much for all our hard work blah blah- totally ignored it as it was the only flat that I viewed with him). Agents will not work hard for you if you tell then your going to cut their commission before they've done there work. I know agents that will really try to push flats to you and not show other 'better' deals bcos they've been paid more than 1% commission. So buyer beware!

Hi Rotund, dimac4,

I haven't signed any inspection paper at all yet, the agent just shows me a list of what apt's we've viewed as a record, but nothing remotely close to a contract or anything.

Can you share if your agents were from the larger chains (Midlxnd, Cxntaline, etc.?) or smaller independent shops?

was with Ricacorp - and the agents that I used were very professional and worked really hard to help me sort out problems and guide me through the maze of buying in HK, they were the ones who suggested 20% discount (maybe I could have asked for more - but it was enough for us to cover other costs) - they were happy - we were happy - win win.
