Just a quick request for some creative input. I'm tired of taking dates to restaurants, even though I love sushi.

Does anyone have any really cool ideas for dates?

hahaha... I love the Hello Kitty/HK gal thing lol

Dinner and movie is by far the safest, but just make sure that you don't dose off to sleep during the movie.

Ultraseven - how would the dating move be different interm of HK girl or expat chick?

Why people like to slate "Hello Kitty"? what wrong with them? I like "Hello Kitty" as i like their design and it is an icon for 30 years. I collect their items like collectables, same as watches, cartoons characters and so on. "Hello Kitty" does not respesent certain type of girls to me. Those local hongkies do not only like Hello kitty, its another culture and behaviour.

I personally don't really mind Hello Kitty, acutally, it can be quite cute... in morderation! Some girls just take it to the extreme when it comes to Hello Kitty "add ons" um.... walking around like THE Hello Kitty isn't a good look....

Ladies, I can't help but feel that my conversation topic is being hijacked. Have you ever had any really cool dates?

I just gave it a thought this week end.

Mmmm : why not snooker or Bowling ?

The good thing is that most of the time, they have never touched a bowl or a played snooker, so you can get close by showing them :-)

Otherwise, depends on the sports she does, but squash, badminton could be a good idea as well. If your feet are the best part of your body ... foot massage. I would say, about anything you would do with a friend is an option. Those are good ways also to show who you really are, to break the barrier and when you plan something romantic, it is romantic; not the same old tune playing on the radio. If she likes pets, go and get her a pet ...

Happy now Typhoon ?

Foot massage?

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
Why not : its quite fun. We did it in Taiwan with a vendor and some collegues : everybody was screaming, making faces and comments. The masseur was making comments on how unhealthy your liver is ... it can be fun and breaks the barrier. Your feet can't lie to the masseur :-)

Well, I am assuming that you have already dated the person for a little while to know that she does or does not wish to have an animal, or like the idea ... And nothing wrong in doing window shopping and go with the flow.

Apparently your gun were rusty and you needed to expell some frustration. That's alright. BTW : read twice never spoke of surprise present, and read positive, you will avoid over reacting. Maybe I can take you out for a massage :-) hahahaha

I'm going to give my next date a python. They love to snuggle.

typhoon, you could consider a siberian hamster. That one is more managable than a python.

As for tips.

If gourmet: how about a wine appreciation event? or a one day cooking course? should your date be less interesting than expected there will always be wine, food and other people.

If into the outdoors: rock climbing is fun, lots of places where you can go indoor rock climbing if the weather doesn't allow outdoor activities. That will sort out the wheat from the chaff, hehe. Of course there's always that good old-fashioned hike.

A picnic?

The weather might be too cold now

Or how about joining cooking classes in view of Xmas?

That worked for a fd of mine....so

I just moved into an apartment. Nice and cheap and beautifully decorated. Went for a second look after signing up and god damn. I'd failed to notice. Hello kitty curtains. Micky and Mini tiles. Hello Kitti carved doors. Pluto in me bathroom. My son thinks it's hysterical. He's busy getting me Micky mouse runners etc. etc. I'm a walking, talking disney ad. Maybe I need a nice Hello Kitty babe to go with it!

Right now, you could go for a walk around central and admire the Christmas lights in front of the HSBC building..

or you could venture over to TST for a walk near the tacky avenue of stars and admire the lights from there, followed by a drink at aqua.

Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Well done Astucias.

Personally I think 1st dates should be kept simple. There is far to much room for c*ck-ups if you go for rock climbing/comedy club/art jam etc.. Should ideally be somewhere quiet and comfortable where you can both talk and get to know each other.

That said, rock climbing would make an awesome second date, as would art jam.

Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Yeah, anywhere that you can extract yourself if all goes wromg. However, this should be done politely.

Worst 1st date would be a junk trip - trapped on boat with someone you can't stand.

Miss P - I agree, coffee for a 1st date is very acceptable. Think it is good to get to know each other without the crutch of alcohol.

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
Yeah well ... not sure about this one. Of course this is better, but so many time you hear, coffee ? Oh ... ok. Meaning, coffee again. And some of us have such a busy dating schedule, coffee is really bad for the stomach.

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
I don't disagree Evohe but sometimes alcohol can really alter a personality. Also, it can be refreshing to do something that doesn't involve a drink especially in HK.

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
In fact. True for dating, nothing better than a coffee for the first time. Which can be followed by a restaurant for the second. In any case the third should be more inspiring, more original. Sport is good to know how people react, and during the second date you can ask which kind of sport the girl likes. But I think the overall rule is to do something you would do with friends and put you in "a situation". After all, it is just a date with a normal person.

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
As opposed to a date with an abnormal person? Ha, ha.

One would hope that by the 3rd date things would have heated up sufficiently making any outdoor actvities redundant.

evohe 19 yrs ago
As opposed to indoors activities ?

joanofarc 19 yrs ago
the heating up can't be done outdoors on the 3rd date? (sorry to barge in, just curious)

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Just messing with you Evohe.

Jean d'Arc - yes it can. Actually I did have a 3rd date once on a junk (sorry Miss P) and it proved to be quite memorable. Broad outline: cold winter's day, small group of people, lunch on Lamma, lots of wine and very entertaining conversation. Things certainly heated up after that.

evohe 19 yrs ago
Jeanne, not jean. And I share the same experience, but it was Lantau though :-)

ok I'm definitely organizing a junk trip next month! Just have to make sure I have 2 dates (with the same man) before that!

more stories anyone..?

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Don't be so pedantic Evohe.

Joanofarc - highly recommend it. You need a select group of friends to help things go smoothly, helps take the pressure off.

Funnily enough it was his friends that made me like him more. I always judge a person by the friends they keep.

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
Sorry, just joking.

I agree with Vulvic. Plus your date is more relaxed and more open.

uhh sorry heated up on the junk with friends around? My friends are a little on the conservative side and wouldn't be able to handle that...

need more new friends!

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Thanks JC!! No, I meant after spending a day with said bloke and his friends, things moved on to another level. Privately. During the actual date we spent more time talking to other people because he realised he did not have to 'babysit' me.

Was just illustrating that things can 'heat up' in the strangest of environments.

Please support our advertisers:
joanofarc 19 yrs ago
was kidding ladies haha although that might have been interesting! (ok sorry my weird sense of humour is just weirder today)

Nice that you spent time talking to other people, went on a date once and ended up at a bar where some friends were too so went to say hello & talk to them, introduced the date and all he could do was nudge me (every 5 seconds) to leave.

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Lol!! You are not alone.

Well that guy clearly sounds like a bit of wierdo. However, if you spent the rest of the evening talking to your mates and not him then he may have been justified.

Please support our advertisers:
joanofarc 19 yrs ago
nope, after a few nudges (which hurt!) we left

and unfortunately things did not heat up after that...not long-term anyway!

What about a night in full body armour dodging grenade sprapnel and Uzi rounds in Devils!!, sorry for cross posting Vulvic, saw your name and couldn`t resist,

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Joanofarc - OK, definately a wierdo then.

Freddy - would you be the one in the armour? It might protect you from the gunfire but you'd still have to dodge the Kowloon boys and the 'friendly' girls. To be honest I think the girls are scarier.

the girls get my vote, very scary

OH all funky places have been mentioned. I like doing something messy instead.I was in HK last week. Had a fantastic time ploughing through huge spicy crabs and mantis shrimp. Slurp slurp.

Freddy - you've obviously fandango'ed with a few of them, lol.

Please support our advertisers:
freddy 19 yrs ago
Sod the lot of them, but feel good about your self first or your disposition will visible to the rest of your world. In a few years time your countrys economy will be right up there and maybe attitudes will change. One of my good friends in the military many years ago faced huge ammounts of prejudice and racism but he fronted it out, became a great officer, earned huge respect from me and several others and married an amazing English girl. But you gotta love yourself first man.

Errrmm.......I think this thread was about good ideas for dates.

Sorry that you have had such awful experiences with women.

Please support our advertisers:

Hi Vulvic, sorry your right, just trying to make the guy feel better. Ok good first date, let me think, long time since 1st date, right how about Ooh La La at Pui O beach, take a walk over Nam Shan near Mui Wo(great views), then take a stroll along the beach, afterwards you can get them to put table on beach surrounded by those outdoor candle thingies and have a nice meal, and if your lucky a bit of salsa dancing afterwards. Ok bit much for 1st date but makes a great 3rd/4th date especially in early summer

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
My ideal first date would be a couple of drinks in Wanchai followed by a kebab on the way home.

Just kidding, lol!

Please support our advertisers:
freddy 19 yrs ago
Ok Vulvic so you are a cheap date. what do you think of the newish kebab house next to Klong Istanbul express, better than Ebenezeers or not?

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
That's me - low maintainance, high mileage. Lol!

No tried that one yet. I fluctuate between Subway and Ebeneezers. A creature of habit me.

Bunch of us HASH types ate there last night, they have tables, wow!!, service was good, food was great. Bugger this sounds like cyber dating, better sod off and do some work, mmmmm nah it is nearly lunch time better just prepare myself for the visit to Kosmos for my healing soup and low fat bagel.

Good point, need to make some plans for lunch. Am in the mood for.......curry......v hungry now I think about it.

Low fat bagel and healing soup? Now that does not appeal, lol!

Please support our advertisers:

Vulvic, he is the healthy type : HASH and low fat food. When he is really hungry a pumpkin salad from Pret a Manger .... ahaha.

Liked your suggestion, Oooh la la is great : the beach is beautiful, and the view from the restaurant at sunset is ... a wonder. Going there this week end after the usual hike. Good place ! And good smoothies.

Evohe - I am always suspicious of men who diet. It's a bit like men who go for facials and manicures - slightly unsettling.

Down with the metrosexual I say!

Please support our advertisers:

Diet ... die with a 'T' in the end.

There is a big gap between diet and facial my dear Vulvic.

Down with the metrosexuals ... I am hit !

oi Evohe, after the consumption of kebab, fries and way too many little brown bottles I need to at least try to maintain a semblance of fitness. Facials , not me buddy, my mates would banish me if I started discussing combination skin, concealers etc etc etc but I do love it when my fiance give me a great manicure, pedicure, massage, hug, kiss, help I need a cold shower!!

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Thanks Boeing, hope you meet someone nice this weekend.

Evohe - does that mean you go for facials????

Please support our advertisers:
freddy 19 yrs ago
No worries Boeing, just go for it

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Manicure and pedicure?? Freddy are you sure you're not metrosexual? Lol.

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
Vulvic ... I do not go for facial. Nor pedicure, manucure, spa etc ... The most I do are showers once a month even when I don't need it, and hair cut below the HSBC building on sundays ...

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Good to know you are maintaining 'french' hygiene standards, lol.

Please support our advertisers:

Ok Vulvic, seems a bit soft but as you may remember from previous posts my intended is Filipina and like a lot of Asians she takes personal grooming very seriously and it is practical too, she has very soft skin so dodgy nails are a problem and as you also know I run a lot and again growing toe nails cause issues when running down precarious trails, hurts like bloody hell in my running shoes or even worse ill fitting shoes when purchasing. That being said I could never go to a salon for such service, that would be way too metro for me.

ps do you know where you can by Dermologica products, I here the're great!! a joke honest

Please support our advertisers:

I thought I quote an english saying though ...

Getting off track, but my bloody burner went off and have to take cold showers in the morning ahhhhh. Horrible.

Please support our advertisers:
Vulvic 19 yrs ago
Freddy - you don't need to justify your ablutions to me , lol. Although using your g/f as an excuse for your pedicures is a new one!

Evohe - Can't you just re-light the pilot? I'm a girl and even I know how to do that.

Please support our advertisers:
evohe 19 yrs ago
Well, it just does : "BOOM". The burner is dirty. Need Town Gas to clean it. Anyway cold shower good for health. Reminds me of boarding school times ...

ok hash history lesson, started late 30s by some military types in KL excuse for a few beers, hash house was slang term for their lunch club/mess and runners were called harriers because runs were basically paper chases with hounds/harriers chasing a hare/trail setter. has not changed much really, still follow trail to beer mostly pre set with cunning false trails to confuse the faster runners. as i said good excuse to have beer and do a bit of exercise.
