Why does everyone assume Ed is a man?

hello?! Would you complain against the host stocking up food and drinks when you make your presence as a guest at the house? Isn't it an absolute right for both sides to post (especially by the administor) and to ignore/skip reading threads as freely as they like?

Most of the time, Ed's post are at least inspiring and interesting, much more fun to read than those insulting, personal attack type, nasty and shallow discussion that i've noticed in a most recent piece which actually drove me away from commenting.

I like Ed's threads. I don't think that there are too many. I do find them, all in all, relevant to this type of forum. Some articles are not as good as others, but that's ok. Just skip posts that you don't find interesting, billybally.

Actually.... when I post the news stories in the morning (as I just did for today)... if I find a story that I think is very interesting - or that people might want to comment on... then I will post a link to it in a relevant forum...

I try not to post too many of these in any given forum so as not to detract from the Q&A of each forum... hopefully I'm not going overboard...

I do think that the stories are often quite informative and are good ways to generate interesting discussions... looking at the view counter there seems to be a fair bit of interest in these links so we'll keep on posting selectively...

Thanks for the feedback

I don't think there's any problem with the number of your posts. If it interests me, I'll read it. If it doesn't, I won't bother. Everyone has different interests!

I think create thread is fine as long as the thread creator have his own opinions add in the thread when the topic starts, otherwise the copy & paste would be meaningless. There's too much information to read online already, so what a good forum need is discussion, but not copy and paste copy and paste .... etc

LEAVE ED ALONE!!!!

Am fully ok with ED and his guides.

I can see him/her slaving late into the night, chuckling as (s)he find some interesting to share with us, or simply dissapointed (s)he does not. (S)he is the gate keeper, Brings more news (I dont get as I dont read as often as I should).

Ed's threads and article links keep the Asiaexpat.com website interesting. Other websites without such active involvement by the moderator are pretty dead. I often disagree with Ed's political and social viewpoints, but he is certainly a smart and well-informed. He has a tough job keeping the discussions going without letting it degenerate into name-calling. Thanks Ed for your hard work.

I assure Bruce94 that Basker25 and Ed are definitely not the same person, although that would be an interesting gimmick. We seem to be polar opposites on most political and social issues, but Ed has made me think through my viewpoints. In some cases, I had to admit to myself that my viewpoints were weak or wrong. That is a healthy process. That rarely happens when you only talk with people who share all of your opinions. It is difficult to find people who sincerely want to discuss ideas without making it a personal feud. It is also useless to talk with people who can only repeat slogans without really thinking it through. The best discussions are with people who really know what they believe and why they believe it. These are the people we can learn from or at least with whom we can sharpen our arguments.

It is true that Ed tends to whine a lot about American society and politics, which seems to be a pretty typical Canadian characteristic. He also has his favorite list of villains and pet causes. I'm not sure if he really believes all this or it is just a shtick to keep the discussion going. It is a little annoying at times, but it works pretty well. Maybe being a little annoying is part of the secret.

I focus on a pretty narrow range of personal interests. I noticed that Ed participates in a very wide range of topics. I admire his wide knowledge base. I agree heartily with PupMonkey. If you don't like it, you certainly don't have to read it.

His links pump prime discussions which are often interesting.

The increased traffic is unlikely to be huge enough to scew the market.

There are people on here posting things that cannot even be comprehended. But that is all part of the joy of a forum.

A bit like reading the newspapers. Some journalists drive me nuts. No time to read it all, and so be selective.
