My mum is the best thing ...she's always there for me when i need her and understands when im a crap daughter and not there for when she needs me. She's the best! I have to share this one with you though.

On sunday we are chatting away and i mention that on halloween me and my mate went to a party as opposites (i.e me the brunette wore a blonde wwig and my blonde mate wore a black one!) anyways the conversation moves from one thing to the next ( you know the score) and about 20 mins later i say 'hey i got a pic from halloween...i'll send it to your mail now' I send it and we continue to chat , then ten minutes later she says 'ohhh ive got it honey wow dont you look lovely...wouldnt have recognised you...you look so different darling !'' I think to myself that her comment is a bit strange cos although im wearing a wig its so obviously me and she only saw me a few weeks before in person. We continue to talk about family stuff ..but then mum (being mum) suddenly changes the subject completely and says ' so was saturday fun then love, did you meet any nice men' i say ''a few leeches but i didnt like being blonde' she says 'what are you on about did you take a blonde wig too'.....how i laughed and laughed and then when she realised she couldnt stop either.....god how i love my mum!

okay Aop - here's one to cheer you up...

My mum is a little hard of hearing (simply needs them syringed, but won't out of pride). So one day I was talking to her and asked her the simplest of questions. It was one that I had been asked by a friend earlier about my brother and was ashamed because I didn't actually know the answer...

"Mum, what course is Simon on?" (He was at Uni at the time)

She gave me the funniest look and then with an incredulous tone in her voice said

"Corpuscle??!! CORPUSCLE??!! Well, they're in the blood! Red or white!"

At this point I was reaching for the phone to call an ambulance to take her away to hospital - I thought she had gone barking mad!

Bless her... she blamed it on me saying I was mumbling! I pointed out to her that anyone normal would have repeated my question to see if what they heard was true.... but mums are never normal!! Apart from JC that is!

Just thought of another 'mumism' and unfortunately this has happened a few times with my mum.

She was walking down the street (several years ago now) when she literally bumped into Paul Eddington (from Yes, Minister) and greeted him as if he were an old friend. She talked of how she hadn't seen him in a long time and basically caught him up on any news about her family that she thought he may have missed over the few years that she hadn't seen him for.... he was really lovely to her as it happens and politely explained that perhaps she didn't actually know him and that perhaps she had seen him on the telly instead! She realised at once, burst out laughing; apologised profusely and made a quick getaway giggling for the rest of the day!

Excellent now everyone is getting the jist of the thread.

My mother always gets actors names muddled up and its not cos she's daft its just one on those brain things that happen. She also did this when i told her about my recent break up. Having cried to her for weeks during one conversation she said 'so when is Jake going to leave!?" She hit the nail of the head there really, Jake is actually my dog not my ex! Ha well done mummy! LOL

It's like an early mother's day gift, we're actually thinking of them out of love not guilt!!

I told my mum last night about some of the stories and (bless her heart) she wanted to give me another to write down, only (typically) the conversation went something like this

"Oh! Paul Eddington - yes! Do you remember when I bumped into..umm.. whathisname, you know, he has 2 other brothers?

They are actors... he starred in that wonderful T.V programme called um.... you know - thingy.

He was with that lovely woman umm... whatsherface... oh dear!

Come on! Help me think!!

Needless to say I never did find out what she was talking about!!!

Nemesis - I have to say, you are like my vitamin pill - you make me feel a whole lot better every time I get a dose of you!! Thanks! xx

My mother liked to think that she was a good hairdresser.. My hair has always been fairly long, thick and curly and therefore a bit of a challenge for anyone.. On one occasion she removed half my eyebrow, on another almost all of my right eyelashes...when she finally cut my ear i begged her to take me to a real hairdressers....she did and I had a "lady diana hairstyle' oooh my what a horrid sick style that was...lol

Mum also used to buy me those sick messed up 'kiddy proof' shoes...that looked so uncool and kids used to pick on you for wearing. I always used to put my patent leather ones in my bag and change at the gate. For the first year this worked at treat and i continued to have new best shoes more frequntly than school shoes until one day mum said 'i dont want to buy you those non kiddy proof shoes anymore they are just not lasting as long...look at your clarks shoes they still look like new'....with that i wore those shoes to school every day...and every break time i kicked the living sh*t out of them until they were battered and old. Even after all that mum still didnt crack on and went back to clarks with me on her arm to complain that they were not scuff proof or kiddy proof...by then they were at least 6 months old.

yeh running up to Christmas i told my parents how much i wanted a BXM they told me they were for boys...i told them all my mates were getting one ...i was about 8 years old so it was important to be in with the crowd. Xmas came and i unwrapped my cindy doll and shower unit and even a real girls world but there was no bike. I didnt moan or winge and was sensible to understand as they had already stated that they just could not afford it. Just then mum said 'lets have some breakfast in the kitchen' right then i knew just by her look that there was a surprise waiting for me. I walked into the kitchen and low and behold a massive parcel was standing upright in the shape of a bike...i wanted to cry and thoughts of me and my so-cool mates all with BMX's ran through my tiny brain. I ripped off that paper with sheer joy only to find a bright red, second hand bike that had 'Typoon' written down it in massive bold white italics. I tried my best to hide my total misery but my father spotted it and tried to console me with 'its even got a basket...not like those BMX things we saw'. I wanted to cry but instead i took that bike straight outside, pulled it to the top of my hill and then went down the road like a mad bitch..

And yes i got over it. My friends laughed when they saw it and i said 'well you cant buy love' ...whereas inside i was thinking 'yeh you can and my parents should have bought me a f* BMX' lol

JC - at least your mum could cut your hair straight!! When I had a huge knot in the top of my head because I was too lazy to brush it, my mother decided she would cut it out.

The words scissor happy spring to mind here because as she started cutting she realised that she would have to cut more than just the knot as it would look like I had been scalped.

Well the result was.... Worzle Gummidge on a bad day!

In the end she threw the scissors down on the floor, had a tantrum then dragged me to the most efeminate hairdresser I have ever known called Malcolm Summers, whereupon he then cut my hair so wafer thin and short that i looked like a boy.

A minor problem I am sure you will agree, however, what you don't know is that I often had to wear hand-me-down casual clothes and unfortunately the hand-me-downs came from my 3 brothers!!! Not only did I feel masculine I looked it as well!!!

I loved to climb trees, put my feet in frogs spawn and get real dirty throughout my childhood...my mother loved to put ribbon in my hair, dress me in beautiful fairy dresses and pretend i was the perfect little girl. She used to buy me those bloody dresses that had an elastic boddice...wow i will never forget those things...id get home and scratch the living daylight out of my ribs....those things really cut in deep and she never cared. So...once i had the intelligence to do something about it i crept into her room and stole her scissors and carefully cut the end of all that elastic. Oh the sheer bliss of being comfortable but the sheer horror on mums face...

I love the Mum stories.

Lammsita - was it one of the McGann brothers that your Mum bumped into? There are 3 of them.

Mrs McGann kept herself busy, lol. Well the ones I've seen are quite fancyable.

Ok, my Mum story:

My Mum was only 19 when she married my Dad and had never left the UK until she came to HK. To say she was naive was an understatement however, she desprately wanted to fit in with all the glamourous and worldly people that my parents socialised with. At one particular party my Mum was admiring some of the collectables on display when the host came to talk to her. After complimenting him on his lovely home she began to ask him all about his 'art de objects'. The host managed to keep a straight face but Dad cracked up. He said that he fell in love with her even more that night.

Vulvic - I don't think it was the McGann brothers as I love Paul McGann in 'Withnail and I' (fav film) and she said he had a cowboy hat on!!! Didn't know if she meant one of the Baldwin brothers.... but what would they be doing in Chichester UK with a cowboy hat on!!?? Maybe she was high!?

You never know, these thespian types have very strange ideas about fashion. Just look at Helena Bonham-Carter. Better still, don't.

Ok another Mum story:

On the ferry to Le Havre, Mum is beavering away at the crossword. It becomes apparent that she is frustrated.

'There's something wrong with this crossword puzzle! I know the answer to 7 Down but it won't fit!'

Dad looks up from his book, 'What's the clue?'.

'A salad dish made of cabbage and carrot. Well, it's bloody coleslaw isn't it?' snipes Mum, 'But it won't fit. Look C-O-L-D-S-L-A-W !'

Not the greatest speller in the world, my Mum.

Funny Vulvic!!

My mum too has a spelling problem. One day she asked me if 'home' was spelt H-O-A-M !!! My reply was simply 'try again'...

She also has problems remembering jargon of any sort.

My brother was a paramedic and he got the lucky task of trying out all the new rapid response vehicles including motorbikes. Well one day he appeared at her house in one of these snazzy, suped up cars after testing it on the roads and proceeded to take us out in it too!

Very excited about her little adventure my mum was retelling this story to a neighbour and referred to said vehical as a 'trivial pursuit van'!!!

Hilarious! I love it when people get their words muddled.

This is the most entertaining thread I have read in a long time. Definately something we can all relate to.

I love it when people are trying to be serious and make a huge gaffe. It is impossible to carry on without laughing.

I remember being bollocked in boarding school for sneaking out of house one night. A few of us were spotted in KFC snarfing chips. The next day we were called in to the Deputy Head's office where we were reprimanded for sneaking out to 'Kenf*cky Tried Chicken'. He tried to carry on regardless but it was no use, we all cracked up. .

Hey! We were feeling a bit peckish and KFC was the only place within walking distance of the house. It was either that or Poundstretcher!

my mum used to turn a crazy shade of pink when she was angry, i'll never forget how her eyes would seem massive, her face would be red and her bottom lip would go so thin it hardly existed. Me and my sister would just run up those stairs shouting sorry mum sorry...hehe

My brother and I were winding mum up a few years ago and asked her if we were love children!

(You have to try and imagine a slightly plump Doris Day look-a-like who believes that "Little house on the prairie" depicted real life!!!

She replied to us with gushing tones "Of course you are! You were all made with love!"

Bless her little innocent heart! xx
