It's how we put it, some say they need another half to complete themselves, some say they need to love and be loved by another person.

Yeah and sometimes that 'third entity' can be rather irritating. But that's just my opinion.

Expatnchina - Bleugh!! Who on earth sent you that e-mail? Hope it's not from a potential/current partner.

I agree, it's lovely when you see 2 people in love. Warms the c*ckles and all that. However, some couples overstep the mark a bit when in public. Have witnessed countless young couples on the MTR canoodling and kissing in a rather animated way. However, there was one time (.....at bandcamp.....) when I saw one young woman lovingly squeezing the pimples on her beaus face. Now that moved me to tears.

Hate to be splitting hairs here but I'm with Binky on this one. The use of the word compl-I-mentary in expatnchina's e-mail is correct given the context. The author tried to get across that you should NOT look for someone to complete you. Hence, complimentary is the most suitable word, especially now that supplementary, which the author has also used, is synonymous with complementary. In short, look for someone who flatters you and not someone who completes you. Sweet.

PS English is my fourth language.

Complimentary - Complementary. Potato - Potaato. Let's call the whole thing off!

Pimple squeezing= ape-like grooming? Never thought of it that way JCPD.

Ahhhhh that's different. That's your Mum making sure you're all squeeky clean so you don't go an disgrace her in public (think 'accident & clean underwear'.) I hear you on the de-liceing thing and, living in Asia, de-worming was also a common theme in our home. lol!

The MTR couple were displaying love and affection through pimple-popping. Different thing entirely.

Back to the original question....

Some people have it in their heads that we are not whole unless we have a partner, someone to take care of us, love us and need us. Thing is, you will never find someone to truly love you until you truly love yourself and are comfortable being with yourself.

Feeling complete when with someone is possible, if you find someone with whom you can be yourself and enjoy life to the fullest and truly enjoy their company.

*IF* someone ever said that to me, once I stopped laughing, I would have to have a chat with them.

Some people, once in a couple, become an entity that no one wants to be around...be it the overly PDA couple, the fighting couple, the cutesy couple. Some girls (and guys too I am sure) forget that they have friends from before the relationship and focus solely on their partner...which is a bad idea bc when it ends, and they need support, their friends that they abandoned are no where to be found.
