I am an American-good shape/attractive/37/never married-no kids-and i am thinking about moving to HK for work..What is the dating live there like?I have heard that it is hard to find single Western men interested in dating Caucasian women my age? Is this a biased view of the expat community?

Indeed, I share the opinions given so far. I guess guys have a lot of options among the many other asians in HK. They're everywhere and, as someone said, they're headarch-free. So, why go into some 'controlling' and headarch-infested relationship?

All the same, I think we should also agree that there is a huge chance for caucasians (no matter the age) too. Once she is open-minded and understanding, chances are bright. Excuse me to say, men need to be cared for like kids, although we act tough. Once you know how to care, no matter of your age, race, etc., a good guy will keep to you. So, sister, come to Hong Kong. You'll be just fine. ANd if you don't like it, you can always move on ... to somewhere else, for example, my motherland, Africa ... :D.

Pumpkin >> has hit the nail right on the head... it's a number's game. If you want only people from your race to date (in this case, caucasians) here in HK, then, you better remain where you come from. Is about time we believe in characters, instead of race.

Is anybody with me here?? :D.

Wowwww!! Is Miss P talking from experience? Good one there though ...... big up for you, Miss P.

I believe this has to do with one's character. It also has to do with one's perceptions about relationship and, more importantly, with who. If your preference is narrow and you've the 'me..me..me' attitude, then, the possibility is that you'll be alone for a long time, if not forever.

I guess if you have lots of patience you will be ok... Many of the men here, especially those at higher positions, spend a lot of time at work, or travelling for work, or planning for work. So you may end up being the one hoping from man to man.

The issue of race can never be overlooked when it comes to any kind of relationship or interaction, although 'we' often pretend like it is not there. The fact is, some people are either not attracted to or afraid of some people from other races. A typical case is a young chinese gal dating a black. I must be quick to say, however, that this attitude is not always motivated by racism (I hate this word), but ignorance or some ill-experience.

Joy and peace to the world, people.... :)).

Uber - are you a short blonde? Only kidding.

I agree totally with Miss P. I don't think it is any more difficult finding a partner in HK than anywhere else.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of looking for potenetial b/fs and g/fs on the bar scene. Nothing wrong with that but in my experience lasting relationships have been with men that I have met through sporting or social events.

That said, I think it becomes easier the longer you have lived here to sort the wheat from the chaff.

My problem is that I am always attracted to the strays in life. I can't bear to see a person on their own. Case in point, I have just found out that my ex will be on his own for Christmas and have invited him to Christmas lunch. I just can't stand the thought of somebody being alone for Chrimbole.

Some people are pessimists, some realists, some optimists.

I am the 'half-full' kind.

Thanks Shaq, that is very sweet of you.

I think it stems from school, always felt bad for the kids that were marginalised and left out. For a time I was one of them and then I realised that everyone is insecure to some extent.

Anyhoo, Merry Christmas to you all. I am off to get some mulled wine and mince pies!!!!

How can one have RADAR without expectations, anyway?

What we don't know--but we CAN analyze :) -- when her radar goes off, is she objective? A realist? Or is she "expecting" something?

Ueber-- we know what Pumpkin is going to say: that she is a realist and that budgets and the like fit into that "glass."

Sounds to me like she is trying to take the "high road" as in higher-than-thou [us]. She needs to be careful, though, those rose colored glasses might not be half anything.

Sorry-Pumpkin. Large orange squash bashing is supposed to be reserved for immediately after Halloween, when they are rotten.

Pumpkin-- clarification:

WHEN your radar goes off, THEN do you not have expectations?

Or do you think "there is it again"?

Just HOW do you respond when the Radar alerts you?

My definition of expectation--especially in your Radar example-- includes a slight surge of pulse and a coursing of happiness through my frame. That's not just letting life "be."
