Hey, I got another interesting one for you guys. Ever heard of the concept that LOVE IS A CHOICE? As opposed to being a "feeling" as is the common belief. It doesn't mean being not true to yourself. It just means that it is able to ride out the seasons when loving feelings seem to recede. It involves commitment, for sure. It possibly defines "true" love.

my dad always told me that. more accurately, he said love is an ACTION, not a feeling. love is a verb, he said. love is work. the "love" that people say they feel when they fall in love with someone is just that - a fleeting feeling. the real love is in the actions, effort, work, and - my favorite - commitment that a person puts into the relationship. so to answer your question, yes, you could then say love IS a choice.

Shouldn't there be a loving feeling first then you can develop that feeling into something more meaningful through action? i mean, you can't just pick a random person and decide you're gonna LOVE him/her, right? ok, bad example but i think love is still an irrational feeling that probably hits you when you least expect it. action, be it commitment, fidelity...is what keeps love alive and makes it last.

It's like distinguishing fiction from reality
Right! Very unromantic

Makes a lot of sense. But so unromantic.
Put it this way : being in love is a seed. You grow this seed, nurture it and love grows. But at some point of time you decide weither this seed is going to grow, or rot. And I believe this choice is rational.

Love is an uncontrollable feeling at the beginning. Feeling, however, comes and goes. To continue to love, is therefore a choice because you need to put in effort to make it work.

Once saw what I thought was a good definition of stress, ie "the difference between how your life is and how you would like it to be"...so get things in synch and u should feel at least happier. But situations like feeling a high level of anger over a long time, but having or choosing to suppress it, or being unable to be with someone that you love can lead to nagging unhappiness, frustration and depression. Having said that, people's characters and depth of feelings and empathy can be immensely different.. romantic love? a feeling for sure
