What I have been doing to move on is to remove any negativity whether it's coming from people or events. I feel it's better we all get together to have a good laugh and share the positive aspects.

I totally agree with Icebreaker! Alan - I don't think there would be any point in moaning as it'll just end up with a group of miserable sods feeling worse than they started!! Should be an informal get-together where we share hopefully all the ups in being single again! Anyone else?

Curious about Expat Life

I am thinking about taking an Expat assignment in HK. I have a reasonable understanding of most of the key issues, but not sure about another important aspect.

What is the "outside of work" life like for an Expat who:

1. Is divorced, 52, outgoing

2. I have traveled extensively, but never lived abroad.

3. Pretty flexible in findings thinks to enjoy from music, to travel, c*cktails, sports, etc.

Memo8: after arrival or the folowing day. From train station "Stazione Ferroviaria" go straight down "Via Crispi" turn right on second corner. Few meters down the road there is "Gigi Bar" on the opposite side of the road!

Be there 1pm sharp, every day. Sit on the second table and sit facing the window to the street. Do not turn nor look around. Wait for a message passed to you!

I joined last Friday's gathering at the Beer Festival. The atmosphere was excellent --- not depressing at all :). So nice to meet people just for friendship. For those who have been hesitating in joining the party, do come in next time! You can never have too many friends, as they say.

We have had almost 700 people try to rsvp and cut things off at 300. Wish we could accomodate everyone but this is after all HK and the venues are limited in size...

We will be hanging from the rafters as it is so there will be strict door policy in place - you must have an rsvp or be with someone who has rsvp'ed on your behalf or the door guards wont let you in.

If you RSVP'ed with say 2 guests you will only be permitted to bring in 2 guests...

We appreciate if everyone adheres to this policy as we want this night to be enjoyable for all and without this strict policy the evening will be ruined for all.

But, I'll take the initiative for our next gathering, sometime next week, say 15th Feb. Since we're all single (divorced!!), we'll have a pretty dull evening on 14th, so let's get drunk the next day!

At JJ's -- Grand Hyatt, Wanchai. They're having a great promotion this month as part of their anniversary celebrations. It's buy one, get one after 9pm for all drinks, including the best of wines and even the most expensive of Champagnes!!!! You buy a glass/bottle and you get one free. Plus they've a good band and a decent dance floor!

We meet at 9pm at JJ's on 15th Feb.

i guess it's doncella organising it (next get together) - because if you leave it to me, with

my schedule, it will never get done!

mexican is good - agave, caramba, coyote - take your pick - or we could do

havana - they have a mezzanine with sofas and stuff a small little alcove! or mc sorley's in soho also has a couple of private tables

or why dont we do sunday brunch in disco bay? those new restaurnts are fantastic - i have been to mc sorleys there and hemingways and

its not bad.

or we can do south african bbq at stoepe by the beach in mui wo lantau.

lazy sunday brunch with wine, meat, dessert and more wine - kids can

play on the sand and everything?

It's so nice that you guys came up with this "support" group for divorcees!! I wish I was living in HKG so that I can join you guys and gals!! At this point in our lives, we do need to meet people in similar situations who will understand what we have gone thru. I'm sure we all have horror stories to tell, but like what one of you mentioned, don't dwell on the past, make the best out of the present!! I know it is not easy, but one must try really hard!! I'm now based in Jakarta and it is so difficult to go thru a separation process. I wish I was in HKG so that I can join you guys!! Well, all the best, and keep the group going!!
