how to approach someone in a gym ?

I never thought the gym would be the right place to approach someone you are interested in. Wait until they sit in the cafeteria with a juice in their hands. I know i would prefer that to being approached by a sweaty guy, in some hideous tank top .

In the cafeteria you would smell of aftershave, your hair would not be glued to your forehead by dripping sweat, and you would be wearing something less hideous than gymwear.

And the lady would not be sweaty and would not look/think she looks awful. Be discreet!

Are you man or woman?

If you want to approach a female, make it a compliment ("you really look great doing those ...") and not a pickup line. The next time you see her it won't seem so sudden. If you want to approach a male, seize the moment.

i think gym is a great place to meet your mates...at least u know the person is healty and perhaps don't drink or smoke.

anyways, i would say do it discreetly and make it casual...i met my mate in the gym and all he said was "how do you use this machine?"...LOL

The only acceptable place to be approached in the gym is at the water cooler, or preferably after one's workout, post-shower, pre-departure. Or perhaps on rare occasions if she is struggling to use a particular machine, you may offer some manly advice.

Please do not start chatting while your lady is on the treadmill or mid-tricep curl. It is most disturbing.

Now now, chat noir. I think it's good to meet new people and to learn to start conversations with people you are or are not interested in so it becomes easier and you just feel friendly. Use natural conversation, not disgusting lewd sexual things like "So, did I tell you there's a pillow on my bed with your name on it? or wanna fall into lust for a few hours, etc. You might get slapped. Instead, just consider yourself friendly. For example, if you speak to a staff member at a gym, you might say something about the weather or how busy the gym is, etc. You could also do the same with a potential partner. i would trust someone who went to my gym more than someone i might meet in a bar who i might not see again.I might ask if he/she could show me how to use some equipment or I'd simply ask the person how she/he's doing. A simple hello is good and you can see if the person looks interested then you can say something about the workout like "I noticed you're into weight training. That's great. I'm trying to do some of that also, etc."

Well someone did use that line on me (yuk) agree with Chat that the juice bar or the water cooler is the best place if you really want to make friends but some guys see the gym as a potential "meat market" and bug you when you're just trying to do your stuff.

Also had someone say to me "Hey do you come here often?"

"Yeah, just to see how many dumbells I can pick up" hahaha.

agree, if you are serious about working out, and not just lifting 10lbs with make-up on and your hair nicely styled by the hairdresser you visited before coming to the gym (yes, i have even seen women in high heels at my gym) you would not be in the mood for flirting.

I love the gyms in Shanghai. You see some people (m&f) who spend more time looking in the mirror than working out. LOL
