Marriage in a foreign country accepted in Hong Kong

Hello @ all,

my Hong Kong Chinese girlfriend and I want to marry soon.

Now, since she had a big chinese and I a big UK marriage party before, we would like to have just a small wedding ceremony somewhere at a beach like for example on Bali.

Do you folks know, if this marriage would be accepted in Hong Kong, or would we have to make it official here ?

Thanks

Hi Dangy,

Before coming back to hkg after the wedding ceremony, you have to bring your Married Cert. to a local hkg.consulate to validate it.Your wife will need it when she start changing her civil status ( e.g. taking you name in her passport. ect.)

I hope this help.

Good luck.

You better check WHAT THE REQUIREMENTS are in the COUNTRY YOU WANTED TO GET MARRIED IN. You might need different types of documentation depending on inter-government agreements.

Some countries don't even issue formal marriage certificates but the fact that a recognised (in the country where it occurred) ceremony took place it will usually be accepted as a genuine marriage,

Immigration is a whole different thing. You can always get married again, civilly, in another country for this purpose.

Maybe the future Mrs. will want to keep her maiden / birth name, too.
