Getting Married in HK: Need to find a Venue

Last weekend I popped the question to my girlfriend and now begins the journey of planning the big day.

My girlfriend and I currently live in the Netherlands but my family is in the US and hers in China (Shantou). After lengthy discussions we finally decided that we would have the wedding ceremony in Hong Kong.

The "official" wedding i.e. legal wedding will be done here in Amsterdam as it would be easier for us do work with the gov't here for appropriate paperwork but we will consider the wedding ceremony in HK as our official wedding.

Since we both aren't in HK, it's a bit difficult to begin the planning. We're thinking we'd like to be a bit traditional and get married in a church but we don't really know any churches. Another option would be to do the ceremony and reception in a hotel and we could bring my girlfriends preacher from her hometown (since we'll already be legal we don't need to legally be married in HK--just a ceremony).

Does anybody have any advice on how to approach this or can anybody recommend any churches or hotels? By the way, it will be a smaller wedding (I'd think 40-50 guests max.).

considering that you do not seem to intend to come to hk too much for the planning, i would also suggest a wedding planner (expensive business though - especially for a small event).

for venue, i can recommend the bethanie (http://www.hkapa.edu/asp/general/general_news_details.asp?lang=eng&mode=gui&newsid=576)

it's actually a film school now but is a great venue for a smaller wedding with church as their (tiny) chapel is very beautiful and they have a (smallish for HK) topfloor room for a banquet

Oh yes the Bethanie is gorgeous and perfect for a small wedding....

but are you sure it's going to be that small? I suggest you get your guest list done first - weddings tend to grow enormously ...when you add everyone up

The Gold Coast Hotel in the New Territories has a lovely marque type function room in their garden which overlooks the beach and the sea. You could exchange vows in the garden setting with the sea behind you then move into the marque for the reception.

The hotel also has a shuttle bus to take people to and from Hong Kong central or TST. They also have lovely rooms which are not too expensive - your guests could stay overnight there.
