I met this guy when I travelled a few months ago to UK. We exchanged e-mails and subsequently talk over the phone a few times, I quite like him and he has indicated his interest in pursuing the relationship, I am at a lose and have doubts about long distance relationship, anyone has the same experience??

People can become attracted to each other in different ways....getting to know somebody via email, letters, phone calls etc is not impossible.

However, at some stage, sooner or later, the two people have to be in the same place permanently to allow the relationship to mature, and then maybe for it to turn into a permanent one.

The most important thing at this stage would be to take it slowly, step by step, do not rush things - and always think about what the next step should be in a logical manner.

If he is committed to living in the UK, and you do not want to go there eventually, I would forget about it.

A long distance relationship highlights a problem that has to be resolved at some point: Who is going to move?

I knew a female pharmacist in Toronto, who lives with her son, and her husband lives in TaiWan. They used to meet in Hawaii each year during vacations - one of which led to the son.

The marriage broke down after 12 years when the husband found a woman in TaiWan who is now his wife.

Gee, iwilltry, good for u, I never really actually knew anybody who met their other half thru a dating site, guess it really works eh....

yeah, thank you all for the reply and advice, I do realise that someone has to move, and that will be me cause his work is with the UK government..

Like Wood said, i'll have to think carefully and plan my steps... it is always confusing when you have to make decision..

My partner and i were together for 2 years before i got relocated to HK. We've had an LDR now for almost 3 years, and its awful. Some days good, some days not so good. I think they're doable, as long as you know when the long distance part is going to end. Its the only thing that keeps me sane sometimes.

Another tip? Keep busy.

if you dont want to worry about things.. best have someone you love and lives near by you.... u can consider anything between the computer and phone as "temporary" things.

(anything i say is an opinion)

Depends how you define "work". Any relationship can work if your willing to invest the resources to continue it. the reason why most long distance relationships don't work is because at some point one person decides they are spending more then they are getting back.
