McWeddings Available Soon in Hong Kong‎

What little girl doesn't spend hours dreaming of her perfect wedding day: the perfect groom; the perfect wedding cake; and the perfect dress. Well, now McDonald's wants to help make those dreams come true. Yes, that McDonald's, of the golden arches fame.

The fast food chain has announced that they will be offering nuptial packages in select restaurants in Hong Kong beginning next year. The packages are set to include apple pie wedding cakes, dresses made of party balloons and—naturally—a banquet of McDonald's fare.

The cost of the package will run you a few thousand dollars, CNN reports, depending on the exact menu, which, if you know anything about wedding budgets, is pretty cheap.

I cannot imagine anyone having a wedding at McDonalds ... but as PT Barnum once said no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the public.

Now let me play devils advocate : too many couples focus on the wedding, rather than the marriage. A wedding lasts for one day, marriage is for life. Anyone obsessed with the perfect wedding needs to ask themselves if they've thought about what happens after than.

So true CaptDave. I think the whole "I want my wedding day to be perfect" schtick has a lot of couples starting their married life in debt.

Till debt do us part, eh?

Or, at the age of 30 she was left on the shelf. Society puts too much pressure on people to marry in Asia.

At 30 her options are severely limited. She may have had to marry a man 30 years her senior, or someone from a peasant background.

Sounds tacky as it is. Though I am afraid i don't fancy for McWeddings, but you never know we'd be surprised? No one ever imagined McDonalds would serve fairly decent coffee before McCafe was open.....

@Captive - people focus so much on the wedding since they expect it happens only once and can plan for how it's presented, compared with the other two milestones i.e. Birth and Death over which people have no or relatively less control its announcement by own self. It's just beyond their expectation when the sh*t happens in marriage life after exchanging vows!

@JCPD - like your "Till debt do us part, eh?" but true.

@mjrelje1 & tigerbay - I am in 30s but never self-pity nor feeling any desperate need to settle for less with 30 years seniors. There are still many 20s young folks who are interested in and approaching me. Don't sentence a woman to death once she turns 30.

Is that for here or to go? I thought the Hello Kitty MTR wedding (see youtube!) and Disney weddings were bad but this really goes to another level (lower)...

we see the difference between China & Hong Kong here. Clearly women do have many possibilities after 30 in Hong Kong, less so in China.
