Do you think it's possible to meet a guy at the coffee shop or supermarket or MTR in HK? The magazines like cosmopolitan always say that you can meet a guy at those places, but does it really work in HK?

In HK, it doesnt feel like you can start a conversation with a guy or anyone will start a conversation with you.

COSMO is for a different culture.

In China/HK, if anyone comes up to me and starts a conversation my reaction is different to back home. If it is a woman I assume she is a hooker, this is from experience.

Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings.

ROFL!

Yeah, I remember the saying where "You know you have been in Hong Kong too long when someone smiles at you and you steer clear of them because you think they are either Mormons or Jehovah's witnesses!"

We live in a big city. People avoid eye contact. If you are gonna try to use the "come hither" eyes in a Wellcome or a 7 Eleven at the slurpee fountain, you are gonna look like you're one sandwich short of a picnic.

That said, you never know till you try it. Still...highly doubtful.

I have never heard any friends come up with "We met at the frozen food aisle..." in Hong Kong. What I do hear is some creative stories on how people met when they are trying to cover up the fact they met through the personals online!

If a man, probably a salesman or a scam artist. Maybe and axe murderer.

Or maybe he thinks someone who made eyes at him by the slushie counter is a hooker.

Not sure if the advice of ''stop looking" is a good one. I'd say mingle, meet people and this will naturally increase your chance for a romantic involvement. If it was easy to find a boyfriend at a bus stop...there would have not been so many online dating sites. You can leave it to nature (the ''don't look'' advise) or you can position yourself in places that can increase your chance.

I think perhaps 'stop hunting' was meant.

I used to go to singles clubs. Ironically the people on the hunt would repel each other the same as like poles on a magnet. And they also scared off potential friends.

Sure, keep looking on line etc., and be open to opportunities, but go 'on the prowl'.
