Ok, so if this was internet speak, "I am over 30" probably translates as "I am 36 or so" and "I can't speak native English" would only matter if you were in the "I am looking to date a caucasian male" in which case, well, it just may matter coz they appear more willing to get roped in by young, hot chicks who cant speak great english but it may be a hard sell for someone past her sell by date.

What other options are there?

Join a club or a more proactive fitness center. Not a gym, more like a place that does kickboxing or those guys that train outdoors...you will meet a lot of new people and through them maybe meet others still. *shrug*

tigerbay - lol, you reckon a guy would be on here posting the same thing? Hmm...

Em Chan - Well, that happens, in Hong Kong people come and go out your life like bus boys through the revolving door of a restaurant. Sure it can be depressing but what can you do about it? Be proactive! Organize something where you can get to make friends. Or find someone to do that for you. I used to do that back in the day, and now here in Hong Kong most of my friends have either gotten married, moved to the former USSR to join the army or gone and had babies in some other country far far away. So really, I have learned to enjoy my own company, more than anything!

And don't knock watching a good movie on your own, its loads of fun!

Being depressed and feeling alone can sometimes be overwhelming, but if you join a fitness crew or if you sign up for something like windsurfing lessons in the summer, you will find that your time to wallow in self-pity will dwindle.

The other thing you could get into is volunteering. Many people are keen to feel less alone but are the first to say that they have no time for volunteering. There is a lot you can do around Hong Kong that will up your feel good factor and improve your karma. They will, of course, require your commitment, but then most good relationships do. Think of something...I am sure you will be able to pick yourself out of it.
