25 year old dating!?!

ORIGINAL POST

I'm intending to move to HK with work for a very reputable airline and so have been looking at everything from renting to settling and everything in between. What I'm wondering is, what is the dating scene like for a 25yr old Caucasian male in HK? I've read quite a bit and it does seem that if you're a (reasonably) wealthy expat, the amount of female attention is far greater than what we're used to in the UK.

This I can understand, but for me, I'm not interested in the women of Asian origin. It's not racist, I'm just not attracted to them, I'm also weary of 'Gold Diggers', but no more than I am over in the UK, I just imagine it could be a greater problem in HK.

So my main question. What's the likely hood of having dates with young Caucasian women whilst in HK or shall I just accept it generally doesn't happen?

At your age, If you think that you are wealthy enough, then beware of "Gold Diggers"! -- not only from Asian origin beware also even of Caucasian women. My point is, you are here in Asia -- observe and feel what Asian women are really like, and seems to me you are sadly a little ignorant.

If you are wanting to date women of Caucasian origin, you are in the wrong place! Asian women outnumber them. The Caucasian females who are here are married to wealthy expats themselves (who got posted here) or they are here for work in which case, they have reasonable amount of salaries and won't need yours. Or you can try Caucasian travellers who may or may not stay in the country with you?

I think you'll have better chances with Caucasian women if you stay in the UK?

Where Next. Apologies if I'm wrong, but you're not trying out the 'Rod Stewart' pick-up of pretending to be an airline pilot, are you? It's just that your email doesn't ring true. Most airline pilots can spell 'likelihood' and they would probably say 'reputable' instead of 'very reputable' - though we all make typos from time to time.

Where Next, you obviously touched a few nerves here with the phrases "not attracted to Asian women" and "weary of Gold Diggers" :P

There are a good number of young single Caucasian women but you need to put yourself out there to meet them. If you are weary of gold diggers, then I think it would be better not to flaunt your wealth or talk about it.

A Caucasian male in Asia more often than not finds himself hounded by women mostly hoping for a foreign passport, so the attention isn't always because of physical attraction.

Hounded by women mostly hoping for a foreign passport - depends on who you hang around with. Most likely you will find your own crowd of western expats or overseas chinese to socialise with and most of that will be done around the soho/central area. If you end up frequenting Wan Chai and dating mainland chinese/philippino/HK chinese and others from poorer backgrounds (to mitigate any offence, there are of course ladies of this type who are perfectly decent) then yes the chances are high but unlikely from the fact that you find Asians unattractive - which is fine, each to their own and no it's not racist. I would however say that you should keep an open mind. You might not find Asians attractive but once you get to know them you might think differently, esp if they have been brought up overseas and are just as westernised as you are. Otherwise, there are plenty of single caucasian women here, probably not many as young as you are but they are definetly out there.

Honestly. there are plenty of fine, decent Caucasian women who will be happy to meet a sincere man.

Thanks everyone, I'm not coming to HK for the sole reason of picking up women, I just want get an idea of chances etc. A minimum of 6 years in HK with no female company would probably break me! As for the Rod Stuart thing, yea, you'll have to accept the typos, I'm as genuine as they come, but at least it's better than text speak!

I'm still going ahead with it I think, I just wanted to get a broad idea of what it's like there.

Warning I would give to any man of your age.

Unless you have been around the block a few times, or are a man-whore.

Don't fall head over heals in love with a really hot looking, sexy, bedroom acrobat. Or a hot looking, sexy, but coy girl, and rush to the alter. Don't rusk to live together.

If you get the rush of love/lust enjoy the feeling. Enjoy the great sex. But don't get sucked into living for and supporting a girl. This is how many young men get burned, usually financially as well as emotionally.

You can have a sincere relationship, and perhaps saying no when she 'offers' to move in will weed out the users.

Hey Where Next, a pre-welcome to HK! Lots of jaded bitter people in HK and on this board, myself included, but don't let that turn you off. Plenty of single NET teachers working in HK, who can't date as Chinese guys aren't interested and white dudes want a bit of exotic for a change. May be your happy hunting ground in fact.

I'm sure he means wary. Maybe his NET teacher can teach him the difference.

As you mention you will be with a very reputable airline, does that mean a career upgrade for you? Easyjet to BA/Cathay perhaps? You sound like you haven't travelled here much, so are you ground staff rather than pilot?

'Weary' means tired and it makes perfect sense to use that word in the context that the OP did.

Thanks for the posts, the majority are informative and give a view to HK that you wouldn't see in a visit of a few days. The grammar is a lot better than you usually see on forums too!

As for the career upgrade, it's a move from Military aircrew to the airlines, so it's something very new for me.

I concur with mrs mith. If he meant weary of he would have said tired of or sick of LOL.

Do not be too impressed with our grammar OP, it is just something else to b*tch about.

I love it how he gets flak for "not being into Asian women", probably from the exact same women that would give him crap for actually thinking Asian women are hot. FFS get over the insecurity.

I dont think the young airman is gonna have much of a problem with finding a woman, caucasian or otherwise...I just highly recommend he NOT mention to them that he is a pilot, at least not until he knows them well enough. This should warily weed out the potential gold diggers that he could get weary of in the long run. This would also prevent the decent non-gold digger from running for the hills because in many circles pilots have a reputation that precede them (and its not a good one, think of the occasional w*nker pilot you meet in Wan Chai who seems about as full of himself as he is of alcohol, its not representative of the whole lot, but that on tosser can give the whole lot a bad name).

You could say things like, I have to travel a lot for work.

Since most small talk starts and ends with "So what do you do?" it may help to find creative ways to sidestep it. Lol.

People fall for someone they come into contact with (face to face or online). If we are meeting lots of Asian faces, the odds are stacked that we will fall for someone Asian.

Getting hooked up is a numbers game.

I don't deny that we all have preferences, but to be honest, I have never dated a girl who ticked all the boxes. And some of the girls I met that ticked all the boxes on my list were... well... not attractive to me once I got to know them.

OP: If you want to decrease your chances of dating a gold digger or becoming a trophy arm-boy then stay away from people who:

-wears 5 layers of make up

-looks like a hooker, walks like a hooker - then probably hooker

-only wears or uses designer labels

-doesn't have a passport from liberal wealthy country

-behaves like a snob towards others (of course you could be considered in this category so it may not matter so much)

tigerbay - sounds like you've had some good experiences - please share.

I also never dated a person (in my case a man) who ticked all the boxes. At the end of the day, you have those who want to be in a relationship, and those who don't, and that's what makes all the difference in the world.
