Actually, it's not true.

Headline is totally misleading from what's inside.

The story starts with an example of a lady doctor with a great medical practice mis-describing her self so guys assume she's a nurse, and how she tries to avoid them finding out she owns a BMW early in the relationship.

The story then cites French research from 50 years ago showing men were flexible about marrying-up and then postulates how things MIGHT change in the future.

Sadly the truth is that most of the men attracted to high earning women are sponges who intend to leech off them. I've seen men marrying rich women to fund gambling habits, prostitution addiction, etc. nearly always for the wrong reasons.... I feel sad for all the smart, accomplished women out there; the deck is stacked against them.

"Sadly the truth is that most of the men attracted to high earning women are sponges who intend to leech off them." Lol, CaptDave knows what he's talking about.

I don't know too many men who are willing to date up without also, to some degree, being lazy and a bit of a sponge themselves.

Wow.. I read from times to time this forum, and must say that I am amazed of the mindset out there..

Seems that in this HK-expat world, the quality of a relationship is too often judged by the bottom line of the paycheck. Those same members who despise gold diggers openly on this site despise also the guys who "date up" and call them lazy sponge.

What about the genuine, not money-biased romance? Men must accept, and be proud of their partners if they happen to earn more. And besides, except in finance, the money one earn does not always correlate with success. So you can be an accomplished and successful man or woman and earn less than your partner, without deserving to be called "lazy leeching sponge".

No one disputes you can find someone who earns more and be happy, but the topic of the article is actively seeking out someone wealthy to live off. The key difference is motivation. Men who actively seek a wealthy woman to live off are sponges.
