(A couple) 1 Chinese girl who lives in Canada for 8 years, and 1 USA guy who lived in Asia for 14 years. Now living in Hong Kong.

Chinese family, Mom & Dad, keep telling the oldest of 2 girls, who still lives at home, "Mom and Dad don't approve of having a boy friend or even want to meet him", Rick and Jane have been together for 1.5 now. Parents stress her, amongst other comments and criticism through (Whats apps) for not being home as much.and refuses to meet Rick. Jane has a good job, and the Rick is 32 and is away giving encouraging advise that even led to a promotion for Jane. Now the mom & sister who also is living in Canada studying to be a doctor, is saying they just want the best for their Jane! In case something bad happens she should see a man who is well off and has some money to take care of everything. ( mom dad and sister have no idea how much Rick earns) Jane is 25 years old and is making good decisions on her own. Traditional Chinese culture is more Conservative and holds a lot of value for security this is understood. The boy friend is not rich but not poor, also is doing OK in moving forward in his career, both are happy together, but have some tiff taffs time to time like any couple.

Parents said: "they just want their daughter to be taken care of when they pass away" (100% respect that) But would this be a good way to help her do that.

Are the parents being negatively over concerned? or is this wrong way to build a persons confidence to build into a healthy relationship.

any advice or comments that might sooth our curiosity of what to do?

that's complicated to say which is right, the most important is the children herself,of course her character or behavior are also influenced by her parents.

Listen to your parents, in very little cases the parents got themselves wrongs. Most of the cases the children are wrong which sooner or later they know.
If you listen to them at least you have their support with you. But if you go against their wish you have to take you own burden specially if in the near or far future so called Mr. Rick and your relations became weak or brake.
You know most of such relations in this age is not that strong. Its just only leasure/ fun out going this and that.
You parents see the world more than you are so they can judge good for you rather than yourself.
Decision is yours.

Thanks

@INDIABOY and MANYGO you both sound so sure to listen to the parents is the right think to do! Rick is 32 and Jane is 24 they are not "kids" anymore. the parents have never seen or met Rick. so what make it so right for the parents to pass judgment or whats best if all they know is Jane is seeing a guy "thats it".

Jane is a smart sweet and as mentioned has a good job as does Rick, both responsible and like to plan for future goals of their to be achieved.

because 32 and 24 will still never equal to parents age and experience...

so listen to the parents, and try to convince them if you have a feeling that they are wrong, remember parents would hardly have ulterior motives but 32 and 24 can often be shortsighted in matters of life.
