American marrying Chinese, moving to HK

Hi,

I am an American moving to HK for my work and am engaged to a Chinese citizen. We want to be married; can we get married in Hong Kong? And if so, I have heard it is still difficult for him to come to Hong Kong and be able to work there. Will my fiancee be able to come live with me after we're married? What is the process like for two foreigners, one Chinese, one American, getting married in Hong Kong?

Thanks for your help.

the process is pretty much the same as for a regular hk couple, just that you need to do the preparatory things from remote. check the govt websites.

as your work will give you a visa, your spouse can come to hong kong on a dependent visa, chinese citizen or not.

a great many years ago, when HK was crying out for a skilled workers, the government bent over backwards to help all kinds of professionals come and work in the city. at that time if you had a dependent spouse, they were allowed to live in the city as long as the two of you were married and they could even work, although it may have only been part time. but they could work.

later on, with employment for locals becoming an issue they stopped all that and dependent spouses had to apply for an employment visa like everyone else. you might want to check with the immigration department as to the latest status regarding such spousal benefits.
