I am intrigued to know if there are any good online dating sites out there? Something for people living at HK but targets not only local community but also expats? Any good suggestions?

Boring. There must be something a bit more exciting, no?

I chat on yahoo quite regularly, and I get hit on daily by about 20 guys. And that's only if I chat for a little while. Most of the guys just hit on every single person with a female sign in name, but sometimes you can have good conversations. Maybe out of those 20, you will find 2 or 3 to have a decent conversation.
My tip though, if a guy messages you with the following message: 'Buzz!! Want sex! ASL? You sex me' I wouldn't bother replying.
You can download yahoo messenger at http://messenger.yahoo.com/ and then click on file then join a chat room. I always go in HK1 which is listed under 'regional' and then 'China'. I hope that helps!

Agree with Blood Diamond, met several guys from this site, most normal and a few turned out great friends. However you need to be careful with online fake personality. An example? I met last September a very active member of the relationship forum, his advices were the best, very mature, the essence of a good guy. At that time i had an ad running in the personals and he contacted me, we caught up and fairly soon after were dating. The fist month was good, the second he was extremely busy with work, I ended it later as a ghost bf was not in my objectives.
However I found out a few weeks ago, he was actualyy engaged with another poster of this site, funnily enough!
I have no bad feeling, just be careful out there, online can be misleading.

Nope, he was already engaged with her in early 2006, for all I know the month he spent time with me, she might have been away organising their wedding. definitively a 2-timer and a fake.

Still have not decided what to do with that knowledge. They both have disappeared from this site and are silent readers, maybe living in a bliss now after his last stunt with me?

Yes I do but will not impose this knowledge on her. If she is still on this site she is due to read this, enough said for her to recognize the situation, she is welcome to contact me to know more.

Advice guys- I had a date with someone recently. It went OK but thought it would be most probably worth a second shot. If you emailed the guy a couple of times after to invite him to casual stuff like drinks with friends and he responded back friendly enough with remarks like sorry to miss it as not in HK. Since then I have not heard a peep- do I give up and presume this person is not interested? What's the protocol here?

Oh yes, decided against the Internet for such purpose... met 1 jerk who is an ultimate cheat, another who is... sigh... rather not talk about it...
Since, am a paid member of a dating agency, first and so far only date was great, he is a gentleman (great conversation, offered & pay for the dinner, offered & gave a ride home). However, quite a disappointment, though he took my mobile #, did not hear from him since last weekend...
Like Trinket's question, he is not interested? In any case, hope he finds his Ms Right soon...

A problem with internet dating is that people can get too much initial attention, beyond what they wold get in real life, if they market themsleves well.
Some find a nice person quite soon but then get further attention and this:
"well if I got him/her straight away without even trying too hard, imagine how well I can do if I run this for a month or two!"
Then they don't bother to get to know the first person well and give that person 1/2 baked attention, then the same to te next and the next and so forth. Then a year later they have been on several dates with many persons, probably a fair bit of intimacy, but by that stage are addicted to internet dating and are alwys rollnig from date to date with a feww on the side overlapping until they become saturated with new ones and a few drop of the interest radar.
A friend of mine used internet dating for some time. She has her profile visible until she meets one person and then hides it. If that doesn't work outr she "re-advertises". Her philosophy is that she can only really manage getting to know/like one at a time to decide whether to continue pursuit, however she spends a fair bit of effort pre-screening prior to meeting. She doesn't just go "what the hell, I aint got anything to do between pilates and drinks with the girls, perhaps I'll se what that Bozo is like for a coffee for an hour between"
It worked out very well in the end for her.

Been using one large dating site for ages. Did meet a few decent guys through it, but considering the time span, good dates were few and far between, and that’s due to two problems I have with online dating.
Number 1, I’m like Tartan, looking for expats and there are very few of them on the site, even though I believe it’s already the biggest site.
Number 2, major issue, when you are just looking at pictures+few words from someone, you tend to judge people only by their looks and hence not taking them seriously. It almost seems solely about looks when you advertise yourself. I posted an ad here before with a picture and got a msg from a guy who told me my picture was no good and he could lend me a f*ck to save me from eternal boredom. Through the same ad I met a guy that I wasn’t interested in but did meet anyway, he told me I looked much better than the picture (he’s exact words were: you are not the really gorgeous type, but you look very nice in person), and I always know that. Camera doesn’t love me, and all the guys are just looking for nice pictures since nothing else seems more direct. Though all the guys I’ve dated told me I was cool and fun to be with besides other good qualities, and I’m much easier to communicate with since I speak fluent English and appreciate western culture, it remains extremely tough to find the right companion.
Though I haven’t enjoyed it for the most part, but if I give up online dating, the only other option left is bar hopping. So guys, my question is, who knows how to meet decent datable expats in gz, other than online dating????

That's a million dollar question and if I knew the answer I would not be sat here typing this! The funny thing with the Asiaxpat personals is that HK is just too small a place. I narrowed my search down to a couple of 'hopefuls' and confided in some friends who happened to know one of the guys and said what a jerk he was. Online is just so artificial- people very seldom turn out to be what you expect them to be.
There's no easy way- I tend to bar hop. Or hope that friend's of friend's might know of someone of interest. Gave up on the internet a while ago.
May AM- what's this dating agency like that you paid for? Is it geared towards the local market or are there expats on it?

i have only tried worldfriends.tv and asiaxpat personals. I met a few decent-looking guys, who all turned out to be players, mainly because they were confident, articulate, and easy on the eye...so of course all the women they met felt almost as if they had hit the jackpot, so happy were they to be dating these above average guys. I am sure these guys would not have stood out elsewhere...but this being HK...they behaved as if they were holding 4 aces....and i am sure some of them had more than 4 internet dates waiting on the benches while they were going out with me.
The rest of the guys were a complete disaster. ...so much so that the option of dating a player suddenly became more appealing...at least you had some good conversations, and some adult fun.
I mean i really enjoyed this online dating thing when i stopped looking for a serious relationship and was happy to just hang out with some totally unreliable, man about town who seemed to know dozens of women - wherever we went there would be a woman who acted very intimate and gave me dirty looks!
In the end, i gave up on the online dating thing. The decent ones have so many women they have to dodge them. The rest are using the net because they are unable to meet women (and not due to a busy work schedule!)

I mean if it's too good to be true, than it probably isn't. One of these guys was so awesome, i still miss him, despite knowing what a jerk he is. I could spend hours just looking at him...it felt almost as if some god had answered my prayers was the 'ideal bf"...too bad other women had their prayers answered at the same time...and this guy seemed to be the answer for... well...too many women. If only i believed in poligamy...i would be happy!

I have a basic lack of interest most of the time because I'm just not up to dissappointments for either party.
It is probably snotty of me but if he has long fingernails or does not shave his neck or pluck his stray nose hairs I will be put off forever. I never allow anyone to set me up with a blind date.
The grooming issue is supremo with me.

I've met some wonderful people over internet dating sites, some will be life long friends! In general, my memories and good and/or funny as sometimes what you expect and what you get are two completely different things.
The only upside to meeting people on the internet is you get an insight into what they want and their personality/interests. Which doesnt happen with bar hopping and seeing as a majority of my friends are gay men, i have no luck in the 'friend of a friend' department.

Tartan, I don't suppose the dating agency I am with has an office in Hong Kong... Except for the wait time, I feel this agency is rather a professional one...
Perhaps when you pay for something, the quality comes in...

What about in Sydney, Australia. Anyone know a good dating agency?

www.okcupid.com is good site in the states. Not too hot here, I think. Link up is good in the states and internationally for socials and events. No one in HK puts their pictures on their profile though. This is not a single site but there are singles events http://hongkong.linkupcentral.com/profiles.php?letter=d
