So the issue is that you just want a HK ID?
How can you have been seeing each other for 3 years but your HK ID issue has only just arisen now?
Sounds like you just want to marry her to get a HKID and that having her as your wife would simply be a good side benefit to getting it.

There are other ways to get a HKID. If you are financially set, you can set up a company in HK and make yourself the director of it and then sponsor yourself for the visa. I know a friend that did that, sorted out his visa problems over the course of a month!
You dont need to get married to get the HKID. There are other ways. This way, if you ask her to marry you at least you know you are asking her because you want to be with her, not because there is some f-d up ulterior motive!

Let's take the ID card issue off the table by assuming you can use your money to incorporate & sponsor yourself. Should you ask this girl to marry you ?
Yes, ask her to marry you. Why ? Your relationship is at the cross roads.... asking her to marry you clarifies both your intentions. What is the worst that can happen ? perhaps she says no, and you have to start again with someone else. That's still better than her revealing her feelings later, when both of you are older still.
Asking her to marry you is not going to kill a relationship - it may reveal cracks early.

As a woman, I don't see why when a woman says "nö"to a marriage proposal, it will mean the end of the relationship, it just mean's she doesn't want to get married.. yet again... especially when she is at that age like in her 50s and had once married.. .

I did exactly as Justin just mentioned.. set up a company, and married my partner a year later.
The costs involved with setting up a limited company are quite reasonable, and in any case even if you were to get married, you would still need to reapply for your HK visa for the next 7 years on a yearly basis until permanent residency was granted ie.. there will not be much difference for you for the next 7 years whether you are married or not.
But surely you would feel better that you are not getting married because of a visa??
