save your best friend's number under your ex's name...do not dial the number directly as you remember his number by heart...i think the urge to text/ call him is so strong sometimes you need help...by saving your best friend's number under your ex's name...you get to scratch the itch without regreting later ( which you definitely will I am sure)....
P/S: above is not a long term solution though

well just try not to call/text, no one can help you, except yourself. If you like to do that, no matter what we say, you will still do that. Or..you dun get drunk.
once you started not text again, then you can continue.

I share similar experience. This is what you should do, if you guys are on and off, that means there are fundamental problems, if he ask for getting back with you with 100% sincerity, those problems are still there, therefore, no real confidence that 2 of you can be long term.
If you are still hanging on "good memories", here is what I do: I listed out all the "bad memories" in our relationship, including meeting/sleeping with other women behind me, left me alone during Christmas Eve, Valentines Day, New Year's Eve, my birthday, then look at this list every time you want to call him. Probably you will think, "it is over".
