It is my second Christmas together with my boyfriend. He told me a while ago that he doesn't want anything material this Christmas. At first I had alot of trouble dealing with that, but that's what he wants so ...
I've already decided to make him a book of poems but am looking for some other ideas. Any suggestions?

You're going to make a book and stick some real poems in? I hope at least.
Are you 16 yrs old?
You could knit him a scarf. Make a photo frame with your couple picture in it. Draw a portrait of him. I think those were the things I did when I was 16.
Good luck!

A book of poems is really sweet and very romantic. Why should only a 16 year old give or receive such gifts?

A book of poems is nice, but it is also material. I, like your boyfriend, am not particularly fond of material gifts. That said, I do have a great appreiciation for things from the heart. A picknick (romantic or not) prepared and by someone else and having it be spontainious. Or perhaps giving him an experiance to remeber like skydiving or going to something exciting. Memories can be far more precious than objects.

I am on the same boat with a non-materialistic bf..
In the beginning I have given him a necklace, a few t-shirts, he didn't like any of it. After a while I started brainstorming of 'creative' things and came up with, for example, ocean park tickets, funny photo of him using photoshop, little turtles, homemade cakes etc. For our aniversary (I hope he is not reading this) I am taking him to a hotel spa and I am sure he would LOVE taking a milk bath with me.
BTW, I learnt how to knit recently and am knitting a scarf for him targetting xmas, although I am not sure if that'd be 2007 or 2008..lol

My little opinion..the poem thing may be a bit too girly for some guys personally I wouldn't care for it if I had received one..

Maybe when he said nothing material, it was code for 'sexual favours'? If shes coming up with poems, maybe all he wants is something a bit kinky in the bedroom, maybe just some nice underwear or something...
Just thinking outside the box!

I agree poems would be nice - but I am not sure how many guys would appreciate that. There are not that many sensitive guys around. Most guys I know (or have dated) would much rather receive something more erotic.

Just to let you know, I'm not 16 years old. I have given my bf a poem before and he really appreciated it because no one had ever given him anything like that. I'm also giving him other things including me in sexy lingerie and tickets to the HK Philharmonic Orchestra. I've decided I'm not going to make the book only poems but also pictures and little momentos of moments we've shared together. He's one of those sensitive guys and I think he'll like what I've come up with. Thank you for your input!

idea:when people are in love/affection, dont want gift means=he just wants you around and kiss him affectionately for the special season! stupid!

I make our Birthday, Anniverasy, Xmas cards on the computer.
They are highly personalised and show that I have taken time (a valuable commodity in this day and age) to make something.
You don't need fancy software, I use powerpoint and just rotate the images so when if fold it into four all the bits are on the right page.
I like the book idea, it can be a collection of the happy memories you have of things you have done together. A love letter can be included. A list of all the reasons why 'he' is special.
A bottle of massage oil, but the oil is not the present :-)
I saw another neat idea in a book. Go to the pharmacy and get a load of those pill capsules. Then write a little treat or a promise on a piece of paper, and put in the capsule.
Put 52 capsules in the bottle and label the bottle as (perhaps) 'Happy Pills' Take one per week for a happy relationship.
This way he can get a surprise or treat once per week.
Ideas include
-massage
- canlelit dinner at home
- day at the beach (it doesn't matter if it is raining)
- Share a bar of choclate in front of a good DVD (his choice)
- buy me some lingerie of your choice. (A lot of guys would like to do this but don't know how to ask)
- breakfast in bed.
The level of eroticism or sweetness can then match your personalities.

I dunno... maybe I'm old fashioned... I feel like a REAL man doesn't want girlie gifts, like poems or a book of memories. Unless, you know, he's 16 and going through his 'emo' phase.
I think the lingerie one is good. Even if he doesn't want you to wear that kinda stuff, at least you get a new pair of undies out of it!

I made a cmas basket of flowers using cellophane, bamboo sticks and ferro rochas chocolate& surround it with cmas decorations. It was a hit with my work colleagues at the cmas party. Additionally my husband also want the same thing as cmas present instead of me buying a gift.

As and ex-squaddie, ex-biker, ex-drunkard, I consider I am a REAL man. Never even had an emo phase.
