Nut alert

A lady I know also has this nut (not only peanut) allergy. She cannot even smell it. So her loving husband has to abstain from nuts although he likes them so much.

Lucky for her thtat she can handle pure essential oil, only of the fineset tho. I call her the "cheap perfume detecter" =)

Life can't be much fun if you have to spend your time avoiding simple things like that.

The only thing I'm allergic to is w@nkers, lol.

Lucky you Vulvic!

Besides also being allergic to said species, I'm allergic to nickel. It gives me a severe rash and swellings. Like Elaine's mother I am the 'cheap jewellery' detector.

That's quite a common one, my Mum was also allergic to cheap jewellery. At least it ensures that your partner doesn't try to pull a fast one with the gold-plated tat.

binky! *blink**blink*...do you mean to say... not everything is associated with relationships?!? noooooo! :-O *gasp* it can't be true! i had NO idea!

haha ;-D ...i think we could tie every single thread in all these forums back to relationships. just goes to show you how much importance we humans actually give to them, no matter how isolated and alone we might feel from time to time :-)

The only things I am allergic to are hard work and early mornings. Oh and crab.. weirdly I can eat all other seafood but crab makes me do the tehnicolour yawn in a bad way. Maybe I was traumatised by one as a child??

my dad and one of my girlfriends have the same* allergy, to all shellfish, but since they can't imagine a life without crab/prawns/shrimp/clams/mussels, they eat anyway, turn all sorts of colors, gasp as their throats constrict, then pop an antihistamine afterward to ward off death :-D

(*thanks flabbergasted ;-) )

Sorry, VOR but an allergy to seafood (crustaceans to be precise) is actually INSANE not sane!

Poor things!

Just out of curiosity: how long had you dated with her? And how long it took to learn about her allergy?

It is sad how many kids have peanut allergies. I taught a child once who had 4 legal sized pages of things he was either allergic to mildly, severely or deadly. Poor kid.

I am blessedly not allergic to anything. As far as I know, neither is the boyfriend. Luckily, we both have the same aversion to brussel sprouts and eggs. I am more of less off red meat as it makes my IBS flare up.

I have a friend to take the cake of all allergy sufferers. As well as being allergic to pretty much all the things mentioned above (nuts, shellfish, citrus fruits, tomatoes, nickel), she was also allergic to... water. Yes, plain old H2O. Whenever she washed her hands the skin would crack and bleed and god help her if she got caught in the rain. She washed by taking baths and putting a special ointment in the water. She was also able to go swimming in pools because something about the chemicals in the water neutralised its effects on her.

I think she could drink it but I only ever saw her drinking soft drink, tea and booze.

As we are sharing--

I am topically allergic to aloe.

You would never believe how many times I have had to give up a favourite lotion b/c it gets "improved" by the addition of aloe... and how many odd things have aloe IN them [tissue!].

My daughters are just terrified that I will accidentally purchased some of yoghurt that is fortified with aloe and we will discover that my allergy is More than just topical when my throat swells shut...
