well to get permanent residence you need to live in hong kong for 7 years! otherwise you will need to get a dependant visa (if your soon to be wife can show she can support you) or you will need to find a job and get a working visa.

daypd2 - message me privately, as i recently married a girl in HK who had lived here for years before, but left town and lost her residence status. There are 2 ways ...
1) Get married and go through immigration yoruself , be messed around, be given the wrong forms, queue up for ages, and wait around 2 months.
or
2) Do what we did - use an immigration consultant. Its doesn't come very cheap, but it works, and you dont have to don anything. However, you have to show "proof" of your relationship, and i mean it - You need letters, pictures, references from friends etc.
But in th elong run its worth it - my wife just got her ID card and dependant Visa. It took around 3 weeks. We got married in June
I am willing to help you if you want more info
cheers

We've also done it and dead easy even without wasting money at an immigration consultants.
Go online and download the forms required. If you read the information correctly then you will know exactly what needs to be sent in. We needed no pictures, letters or references, just financial info, marriage docs, lease docs on apartment and that was about it. All done very simply!

Not so much a reply as a query along the marriage/visa lines really I guess.
I'm just wondering as I'm a perm. res. in HK and married a non-Chinese, non-perm. res. this July last July. Our application is still going through but with all the stress of this, moving home and him changing from the person he was before we got married, life is Hell right now and I'm just wondering if he is granted a dependent visa, does anyone know if this will be automatically cancelled and, as such, so will his accommpanying right to do business/work/be employed IF we officially break up? I've tried to find these answers online but haven't been able to come up with anything. Any light anyone can shed will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Snowy Mooncake. I am a little lost with the information you provided there. If my guess was right, you were asking can your partner keep the dependent visa after you two divorce ? If that's your question the answer should be YES. However, as this is legal matter I would suggest you phone or go to the immigration department to find out the updated answer if you can't find anything on line.

Snownly Mooncake.
Of wht I know, if your partner's dependant visa is already granted, it will not be cancelled/withdrawn upon divorce. But he will have a problem renewing it, as you will no longer be the eligible sponsor. Agree with wonderfulday - that you shd call up imigration dept for details : 28244055

I'm a Brit who married a HK Perm Res. - I applied & got a Dependant visa within a fortnight of applying. Just provided immigration with bank statements for last 2 months and letter from hubbys employer and proof of residence.
I was told it would take a while but plesently surprised at how quick/efficient & helpful immigration were!!
I have my visa for a yr now & they advised me that after this expires i would be granted a 3 yr one then a perm one after that period.
Just go online to complete the form and book an appointment at immigration to show your supporting docs - i found this way to be very good.

Hi guys, Only just had a chance to go online again, so busy, so much to do! Thanks so much for your responses - very helpful. The application has been in since July this year! All documents provided as well. I guess its just a waiting game. As you can appreciate, I don't want to contact Immigration with this question while this is still pending but I guess I can just try and call the number and see if I can get through to someone (instead of a machine and having to keep pressing buttons!) and see if I can just find out the answer in general.
At least I have more information now as in it would appear these visas are given in periods of time as in 1 year at first, then I guess if the circumstances haven't changed a 3 year one etc.
Probably right that if they see changed circumstances, end of marriage etc., then it is not renewed. Will definitely call that number and see what I can find out.
Its all just so sad. That's life though I guess, u win some and u lose some. :(
Thanks again.
