Hi,
I am getting married to my lovely woman (HK resident) this year and then I have to deal again with HK-Gov to change my employment visa to a dependent visa.
Does anyone of you made that experience already? Does the dependent visa give me some advantages in terms of changing a job or starting an own business in HK? It would be great to know more about from people who made similar experiences.
Thanks!

Hi I am a PR (permanent resident) following our marriage, my husband then transferred to a dependent visa as then there are NO restrictions on what job he could do. As regards starting an own business in HK you can do that whatever visa you are on, the problem comes in for people who then want their own business to be the one providing their HK visa. Used to be asy to do years ago, now I believe it is much harder. Since you will get a dependent visa that's the way to go - total freedom for work purposes.

Thanks Sarah99 for telling me about your experience. I also went to immigration but they can not really give out good information and only told me to check their website. Seeing people who were in similar situations is much more helpful ;)

The dependent visa give you the advantage that a future employer does not have to sponsor your work visa. You can change jobs without all the paper work. That makes you more "employable" for some companies due to the fact that they don't have to prove to the Immigration Department that they can't find a local person to do the job.
