Semantics? or Truth?

In keeping (of sorts) with the other threads, I was looking for, not idle banter, but opinions to which of these sentences makes more sense to you!

A woman, without her man, is nothing.

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Now I know it's all in how it's punctuated, but the two nuances are quite thought provoking...

Which one fits?

Or is it that you wish for one of the sentences to be true, but in reality it is the other that actually works??

I want to know why you think as you do!!

....please?....

In some ways, they both work. I woud like to think that the later is more true from a strong female POV but in some cases, women need a man to feel whole.

Personally, I would say it is a fairly equal split between the 2 of them.

The two sexes coexist. So one cannot live without the other. At least that is what I would like to think.

think the latter is what arrogant women tend to believe while the weak ones believe the first one. A confident woman should know both of the sentences are not true enuf, we are individuals and we should be strong enuf to be independent and there is no such thing as can't live without anyone. It takes experiences and lifetime to build such confidence though.

Thank you! I like all your thoughts.

I was thinking about space-dusts' thought and it is true, women can live without men and vice versa, but is she truly happy??

I don't know... just thought it funny how different something can mean just because of how it's punctuated!!

I had a good chuckle at your interesting questions & your very thought-provoking observation at the end! You're quite an intelligent character, lammasita! :)

As a woman, I believe both are true...and untrue at the same time!

For thousands of years, women have been taught to believe that we are nothing without a man. It has therefore become ingrained in our very beings. Unconsciously, we even behave as though this was the absolute truth - whether in relationships, in our families, in our workplace.

To consider that an "weak" woman would believe the first statement, whereas an "arrogant" woman would believe the second is simply denying what IS (nothing personal, space-dust!). I would view the woman seen as "weak" as oppressed by these beliefs, and the woman seen as "arrogant" as fighting against the belief in fear that the statement might actually be true!

What is a fact is a fact: woman have been "impregnated" with this belief (pun intended). Therefore, while unconcsious and without self-awareness, we act this way even when we're trying not to - such as the woman viewed as "arrogant"!

As far as the men go, without a woman, his body cannot enter our world; without a woman to nurture him, he can never understand the depth of love & compassion and can therefore never learn to give & receive it; without a woman to procreate, our very existance is impossible.

These are facts on both sides - and a fact is a fact. However, facts are not ABSOLUTE truths. As I stated earlier, I personally feel that these two statements are not true at the same time: if we can view these statements from a spiritual view, our souls are gender-neutral... for Divinity pocesses no gender...and these statements are no point of contention in the grand scheme of things.

Be blessed!

as Elvis rightly said ...

' A MAN WITHOUT LOVE IS ONLY HALF A MAN...BUT A WOMAN IS NOTHING ATALL' :( ...but that doesnt mention whether he meant love to be the opposite sex perhaps he wasnt!!!

I actually think the second....and yes, I have seen this play with punctuation before with the same sentence, but it will always be clever, and peoples responses will always be interesting...

idle banter will be what it will be, but that is what makes the world go round....

I think this topic deserves far more than the eight or so reponses that it has had. But let's face it, we like gossip, and are far more interested in "Miss Got Married Right and Had the Perfect Wedding" having group sex with her husbands whole rugby team while he is in hospital with an injury.....

Oh, and really, why do we even learn and study at all, if the essence of our interests just lie there???

Sigh!!!!????

A woman, without her man, is nothing.

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

A 3rd choice for punctuation:

A woman, without. Her man is nothing.

THEN the question becomes: "without" What?
