G/F problem: Should I move to Malaysia?

I'm about to be offered an engineering job in Johor Baru on a full expat package. I've been to Malaysia (but not Johor Baru) several times before on biz trips and on holiday and I've also lived in Beijing for 3 years and Jakarta for a year, so I know what expat life is like. I'm Australian.

I'm mid-30s and I got divorced about a year ago and no kids.

Basically what I want to find out is: this would be a long term posting to Johor Baru on a good package. BUT I don't want to go anywhere where I would not be able to meet a future permanent partner. IE I would like to get re-married and I don't want to blow off a few years in some industrial town full of hookers and nothing else.

I have a bit of a soft spot for well educated, Cantonese speaking Chinese girls. Something along the lines of a partnership marriage, rather than a stay at home tai-tai.

There are loads of this type of girl in KL, but how about JB?

So.... the question is, what type of person lives in Johor Baru? How industrial is it? Given I'm looking for a well educated, relatively independent Chinese girlfriend, would it be a good move?

cheers.

PS: dunno why it says I’m based in HK at the bottom, I’m actually based in England at the moment.

JB is only an hour or so drive away from Singapore, so if you want to meet more cosmopolitan, independent women, you need not look too far.
