best things about being single: pick belly-button lint for an hour without guilt if you like. remote control dictatorship. the bathroom is your domain, and yours alone. pick out all the vegetables from food without criticism or lecture. watch "out of africa" (or any sappy flick) as many times as you like - weep openly at best parts. ok, i could go on and on...will stop now.
more unusual places to meet other singles: airports. airplanes. queues. boracay beach, philippines. being lost in big cities. libraries. computer stores. weddings.

Talking about meeting someone in airport and planes. I always look the worst when I am flying. I feel so bloated all the time. What makes it worst is I always dress the loose fitting clothes. Airport and planes are not for me.

Things you can do when you're single....hmmm...
Listen to your music whenever you want, watch the telly programs you want, therefore having total control over the remote!! You can become a better friend because you have time to see them all.... ooh! the list goes on and on!!
You can be yourself, wear what you like when you like and not be told to 'go and change', eat when you want, not eat if you want!!
FInding a 'true' single person in this city is like looking for a needle in the preverbial haystack!!

Ballerina and spade-dust, same here, only old men/women with babies sat next to me on the plane @_@ Even at those odd moment I had a cute guy sitting next to me, his ugly behavious totally turn me off - e.g. picking nose (yuck) or ordering alcohol drinks like there is no tomorrow (such a greedy pig!)

hahaah, my brother once told me this, which i think it's quite truth. Valentine's day is made to cause depression for those who do not have valentine. As if you have a valentine, you do not only need this day to celebrate and show your care for him/her.
Well that's sound a bit too extreme, but valentine's day may be good for the new match lovers to show their special attention to their love ones and other can make some money, why not?

call me old-fashioned but i love valentine's day. i don't see anything wrong with a special day that celebrates love and lovers. as for "every day is valentine's day" - well actually, no it's not. every day in a good relationship should be healthy and positive, but i'm all for a special day to push the envelope for/with one's beloved.
having said that, i agree that it's a brilliant idea to mark valentine's day by re-evaluating our most important love relationships - why not? it's a positive act of self-love, very healthy to do, and we should all do it anyway from time to time, like emotional housecleaning.

justin, I am a woman and I will be celebrating that I don't have to get consumed in the commercialism and remembering it is totally fine to be single - better single and happy then in a bad relationship, a great relationship is another matter...maybe you should organise a party, but do it for Feb 15th, which is the official Single's Awareness Day - the single's answer to VD's.

While some of you are quite obviously an exception to the majority, most women (in my experience) enjoy the whole Valentines Day pampering.
Let's be honest. Hallmark or not, Religious ties aside, its just another day to us men. It's not about hating the Man or the system, nor about not needing to celebrate your love on any particular given calendar day. It's just a regular day, one in which your girlfriend hopes for special treatment. You can enjoy every day of the year, why should today be different?
Forget the greeting cards, candy, flowers. Show up with a single red rose and a smile on your face, in a nice sharp suit. Even better, prepare ahead of time to dress each other up and have a sexy gown waiting for her. Send her text messages from your mobile phone all day about how you can't wait to see her tonight. Take her to a nice intimate restaurant, or cook her a candlelit dinner at your apartment. Pick a nice wine. If you are lucky enough to have outdoor facilities, do it on your roof or balcony. Have a bubble bath waiting.
You don't need to spend money and contribute to Hallmark/Godiva to enjoy a pleasent intimate Valentines day together, you just need to be willing to put in the effort. If your woman appreciates expensive flowers and chocolate more than she does your effort, this probably isn't the woman you want to be with--and if it is, you probably have enough dosh to spend on her anyway, so suck it up and try and make it an enjoyable day for the both of you.
On the other hand, this is the second year I'll be spending Valentine's day single. This year by choice. Some single women sit around all day moping about the holiday, and complaining about the absense of Prince Charming in their lives. Others go out to the single bars, have a few margaritas with their girlfriends, and try to enjoy the day. Which would you rather be with? Go out--you will, ironically, never meet as many single women as you will on Valentines day.
Meeting women is no complex science. Get involved in the things you enjoy doing, and you'll meet like minded men and women. Play sports, take a few classes of topics that interest you, get out for drinks with your friends at the weekend, make it over to race night on Wednesday, check out what's on at the Fringe Club. Generally just make sure you're doing things you enjoy outside of work and you're not vegging out all night in front of the television, bring a smile, and you will meet more people than you have space in your phone book, especially in a place like Hong Kong. You may have trouble meeting other people that do nothing, but then again, why would you want to?

Tis so easy to do wrong on valentines day ! Its really depressing if your in the middle of a sulk fight....its horrid when he sends you a dirty card and draws a picture of a willy on it....tisnt nice when he gets you a video (that you know he's been dying to watch) makes you angry when he turns round and says 'its a load of commercial BS' and worst of all...
its devasting when finally after years of celebrating it and thinking that it does indeed matter you succumb to the notion that it is a load of commerical BS and if you love someone you shouldnt need a certain day to tell em...whether your in a relationship or doing the thing of sending a card to the girl/boy you fancy. ahhhh Valentines day...what a pile of crap!
