People can be addicted to gambling, to alcohol, to work, drugs, and to sex, just to name a few.
Treating each kind of addiction as a separate disease is a mistake because the core problem is the addiction behavior, not the sex, alcohol, etc. There is something missing in the addicts life to cause this kind of behavior. The Dr Phil approach "just stop" - is generally not helpful. You need to get to the root of the problem.
