Hi,
My best mate is considering dating a colleague who is a few years his junior (in terms of age and seniority).
I have tried talking him out of it as they work closely together and if something were to go wrong, I think that it would be difficult for him to remain in the job.
Should I play the supportive or critical friend? Anyone out there experience something similar? Would like to know how it went and opinions.

Can one of you make a horizontal shift to a different part of the company where there would be no "conflicts of interest?"
I'm also curious whether or not you have things in common beyond attraction and the office. Are couples that work together and then spend free time together have enough to keep good conversation? Will defer that question to people with more experience.

For myself, I would never want to exclude the possibility of living something that appears emotionally really worth it (never tempted by unavailable men though, so I don't count that).
So if it really triggers some unique and strong feelings, I'd definitely go for it, I would not sacrifice that for the sake of a company/job, it is too rare.
Now, on how to manage that properly, I would now definitely use all the above advice.
If just for a fling and excitement, no, I would definitely stay away. Not worth the risk.

Thanks for the replies. Fortunately, the guy in question is not me. The lady does not have any idea of the way he feels for her. She does get along well with him in general, however we are not sure whether she is interested in him the same way he is interested in her. And he has been feeling this way for at least four months.
