Last week I suffered a fall at work, which resulted in me having to go to a public hospital to be x-rayed for possible hip and lower back fractures. Luckly I was ok but very badly bruised.
After a week off work with a doctors letter I know have to try and work again, but I have a physically demanding job which is very difficult at the moment. I have been adviced to have physio so in later life I do not suffer from more long term problems.
Can anyone tell me, as this was a work related injury, do my employers have to cover the cost of the treatment that I now need?
Also I was supposed to have medical insurance by the company but it seems they failed to re-new the policy in February this year. It clearly states on my contract that I should have medical insurance provided. When I asked if the policy had been re-newed back in February they did tell me them yes they had done it. However now this has happened it has come to light that they had not in fact re-newed it.
Where do I stand on these issues?

If your injury occurred during the course of your employment, your employers are legally liable to cover your medical costs and expenses.
Did you report the injury to someone in authority at work? Your employer should have an insurer. Give your employer copies of all your medical bills etc for him to forward to his insurer.
Has your doctor cleared to you to return to work? If he has but you feel that you're unable to perform your duties as pre-accident, you should go back to him and ask him to issue you with another sick leave certificate.
Re medical insurance from the company - as this is a work-related accident, this should come from your employer's insurer and not your own.

Gojo, your employer has to compensate you under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance if the accident happened at work, regardless of whether it was your fault. It goes without saying that your employer is also responsible for your medical expenses arising from the accident. Good luck.
