Starting from scratch!!!

My husband and I would like to move and live in HK for a period of 6-12 months. We do not have any job offers at present. Neither of us have a degree but are both in management positions in the Hospitality industry in the United Kingdom. We are between the ages of 29 - 32.


Does anyone have any advise as to which visa we need to apply for and how we go about starting from scratch! I have tried to research visas but keep coming up against the whole'graduate' thing along with the fact of a national being able to do the same job.


Is it realistic of us to try the move????!!

you need a company to sponsor your working visa!


alternatively you just come on a tourist visa for 90 days and go in and out - athough there is a risk that the immigration authorities will get suspicious

You could just send an email to some of the headhunters listing your qualifications/background and ask them for their honest opinions as to the attractiveness of you both in the HK hospitality industry.


The hospitality industry is very competitive, accordingly I don't like your chances on securing a job in HK. I assume you don't speak cantonese or mandarin, this is going to be a big disadvantage given there is constantly a big focus on attracting more guests from China, which requires a strong understanding of the China market.

Teaching english is always a possibility. You would need to get a good quality tesol or tefol (trinity or cambridge). There are schools that recruit in the UK for native english speakers and they would arrange your work visa - you only need one of you for this, as you are married the partner could work on a dependent visa.


A kindergarten assistant job pays around $18,000 - $24000 per month, and you would have to pay your own accommodation and bills. You would also be required to sign a two year contract.


With the two of you working, this kind of salary is livable - especially if you live somewhere cheap like the outlying islands.


This will only work if you do it soon, as kindergarten teaching will require a qualification as well here soon.
