Just curious as I'll be getting a new passport soon- in the last 9 years I've become a PR, so can I assume I don't need a stamp in my passport any more? - you know, a stamp that says I don't need a stamp. After all, I don't even use my passport getting in & out of here, and nowhere else cares.

No, you don't need a stamp to say you're a PR; your HKID card says you're a PR on the top and that's all you need.

Thanks Shoe Girl, that's what I was wondering- of course I'll still travel with my passport, just wondered if it needed any kind of stamp. Problem solved. Ta. Till I get dumb check in staff in the USA who want to know why I don't have a visa!! Yes, had that a couple of times!

Wouldn't you think so! It was just one time when she kept going "But where's your visa?" - it was a connecting domestic flight in a town where I don't think they check many people through to HK- or anywhere further than Canada.... she handed my passport back and told me it wasn't the airline's responsibility if I got stopped at HK immigration! Really had to bite my tongue on that one....
