PR salaries

I'm discussing a senior corporate affairs role with a multi-national and would be interested in what salary packages are in Hong Kong.

I've been in PR/corporate affairs for more than 15 years and the role is a regional one, overseeign public affairs people in several countires around Asia. I will be bringing my wife and two kids with me and the early advice is that Hong Kong is great...as long as you have enough money.

Does anyone know what senior people earn or if there is a credible source of salary surveys? (The ones I see here in NZ are usually off-beam).

thanks in advance

I have no idea what the "average" is for your industry and position, but I can tell you this: expat compensation can vary wildly even for the same position in the same firm. So what is more important is really your particular situation.

If your firm is asking you to transfer (meaning you never initiated such a request, or hinted you want to come to HK.) or if you're being headhunted by another firm, than the ball is in your court. You can start the negotiating process by asking for 50 - 100% increase on your current base, plus a generous housing allowance etc, and see what they come back with.

If you asked for the transfer, then your negotiating position is much weaker, I would suggest as for a 10% increase in pay, and a moderate housing package, and take whatever they come back with.

If you are currently out of work, in the current economy, just take whatever they offer, if it is too low, try to get it fixed next year.
